5.0 out of 5 stars Bait it correctly and place it well, it will catch a mouse every time!

I'm back to buy my second box, These simple mouse traps work perfectly every time! All you have to do is bait it right and place it where mice travel. Last year I had some grain stored in my garage, and did not realize it was drawing mice until my garage was overrun. I have used other traps in the past, but my husband always used this kind, and he always caught any mice that showed up. in our house, so I bought this box of 20 traps because I do not reuse them, just toss them in the garbage with the mouse still in the trap. I just kept trapping them until they were all gone. But this winter, though I have not had mice in my house in years, I saw one run between the wall and my fridge. I still had 4 traps left from last year so I started setting traps down in that small space between my fridge and the wall.

There is one mistake that some people make, and then complain that the traps don't work. That is to use only peanut butter as bait, or too small a piece of cheese. Peanut butter is too soft, so if a mouse is careful he can lick it off without setting the trap off. My husband always used a good chunk of cheese that took up the whole metal tongue except where the latch goes, and he pressed the cheese hard onto the tongue, so it was not easy for the mouse to get it off the tongue. This year I did not have solid cheese, so I used grated cheese, squished it together tightly using a small dab of peanut butter to bond the cheese shreds together, then pressed it onto the tongue and mounded it up as much as would go on the tongue without interfering with the latch. The only time it failed to catch a mouse, is when I put a little too much peanut butter, and the mouse was able to steal it without setting off the trap. I re-set the same trap and it caught a mouse, so I know the trap was not faulty, just my bait. Between last year and this winter, I have used 18 traps and caught a mouse with every one. But I probably have more, so i am back to order more traps.

Let me just conclude here, that there is no need to buy more expensive traps These may be a little more sensitive to set (I couldn't remember how, so I looked it up on you tube), but if you bait them right, and place them well, there could not be a more effective trap. The bait is most important, but if you use an adequate amount of firm cheese, press it onto the tongue well, then add a touch of peanut butter on the cheese, then set the trap, when these traps stop catching mice, its because your mice are all gone, or you need to find another place to set the traps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, inexpensive, effective

We had a mouse and were waiting for bait stations to do the trick. But we were feeling impatient after another night of finding new droppings on our kitchen counters, so laid out six of these traps all at once with small amounts of almond/sunbutter, and the first night we got the bugger. I’m not crazy about the whole process and don’t like seeing the poor little mouse in the trap, but these traps definitely get the job done, particularly if you follow best practices ie what Victor has on their site (such as use gloves to hide your human scent, don’t use much bait, keep them out of open/exposed areas, use a bunch all at once, etc).

5.0 out of 5 stars Old fashioned but still the best.

These mouse traps have been around for years. These are the same design as the ones my grandfather used. All I can say is they work and they work well. This is the old design. The new design has a much larger trip lever that's made of yellow plastic. That makes it easier to hold the bait. I use peanut butter and the mice fall for it every time. I noticed quite a bit of rodent activity in my house so I decided to do something about it. I set 8 traps from one end of the house to the other. For the first 10 days I was catching a mouse a day. One day I caught 2 mice. After catching about 11 mice a week passed and I didn't catch anymore. Then I caught one more. Two weeks have passed and I haven't caught anymore. I think I got them all.
I keep the traps set in case a straggler comes along. These traps are good but the ones with the large yellow plastic trip levers are better. The advantage of traps over poison is when the mice eat the poison they go off to die and you don't know where they are until you start to smell them decomposing. With the traps, you don't have to hunt for them.
For the animal rights activists that don't believe in hurting animals. These traps are far more humane than glue traps or poison. Once that trap snaps, the mouse never knew what hit him. It's over in a split second. With glue traps and poison there is considerable pain and suffering before death. Yes a mouse is a living, breathing creature with feelings. They are also filthy, destructive, disease carrying menaces that are responsible for causing houses to burn down from them chewing on electric wires and many deaths from carrying the Bubonic plague and other diseases.
This is the best way to rid your house of mice in the most humane way possible at a very reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mouse traps, but about 10% of them were missing parts

This is just the good old fashioned Victor mousetrap. It works well, especially this version that's made entirely out of metal and wood. This older design significantly outperformed there's that uses a plastic trip plate. My one and only complaint is that about 10% of the mouse traps in this box we're missing a part that prevented them from working. Some were missing the trap arm, others, the trap plate, and one was even missing the spring. Considering the price, this was still a savings over what I could get at my local big box hardware store, but definitely annoying that the quality control was so poor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with these

The metal pedal on these works a lot better than the newer and more expensive plastic pedals. The plastic pedals are harder to set and also harder for mice to trip. I've used both this kind and the plastic pedal kinds in the last few years on several occasions and these work better.

I wouldn't recommend reusing them at this price, just throw them away and the mice will be less likely to be warned by the smell of a dead mouse which might persist on an old trap. Or if you do reuse them and have some time, I know people who swear by using fire to burn the trap slightly to remove any smells.
