5.0 out of 5 stars Regardless of value, it’s just a great lens.

I couldn’t be happier. I opted out of the Sony 35 to save $$ as I thought I wouldn’t use this as much as my 85, more of a “I’ve got it if I need it” kind of thing. I’m now using it as much as any other lens!
Super sharp at 1.8 and I can’t see any flaws at the f7-8 sweet spots. Auto focus is as fast as my Sony 85 1.8 and Sigma 24-70 and keeps continuous focus locked in as expected.
Also, it’s light. Really light. And compact. I took it to the Nashville Farmers Market for some street / people shots and it was not invasive at all (that 24-70 can be intimidating). It’s just an all around pleasure. Some people complain that the build seems cheap, but it seems rugged enough and in exchange for “build feel” you get a sharp lens that’s easy to work with.
In sort, buy it… you won’t regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is a perfect 35mm prime lens.

I think it is a perfect 35mm prime lens. I have used Canon, Nikon, and Sony, but I find this to be the best lens. The bokeh is exceptionally beautiful. It is affordable. The sharpness, weight, and all other aspects are excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good budget lens, with quiet but not silent AF
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2022
It's basically a budget version of the Sony SEL35F18F that comes with a few minor compromises that may or may not matter to you. The lens is very sharp wide open with the Sony lens having slightly better sharpness towards the edges. Bokeh is competent, if busy in some situations. Onion rings are there, but subtle - you'd have to zoom in to really see it.

Unfortunately, I had to send mine back since I occasionally shoot interiors in near silent environments like libraries and museums. The autofocus, while fast and quiet for a cheap lens, is definitely not what I would describe as silent. I'm also able to pick up the clicking of the aperture blades and motor noise in videos. Minimum focus distance was the other sticking point for me. It's fine at a foot or so, but the Sony 35mm 1.8 lens can focus at 9" and is sharper at minimum focus distance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect lens for street/cityscape photography.

Small, light and compact lens. Pair with the Samyang 75mm f1.8 and that's all the gear you need to travel light. I am a minimalist. I only take these 2 lenses to my travels and that works perfect for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Image quality at a bargain price.

I was expecting high quality images as I read several reviews that attested to this. It delivers in every way. It's small, compact, and lightweight which works perfectly with my a7c. I usually use sony or tamron lenses and have never been disappointed. I'm glad I can add samyang to the list. I wish I had bought this prior to my trip to Egypt as it would have stayed on my camera as it has since.

Lightweight. Short. Very luminous. Love the 35mm field of view. Sturdy build although not metal. Nice color rings (picture shown with additional Jongsun filter). Seriously recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars It was great until it wasn't

I watched countless reviews before going with the Samyang over the Sony 35mm 1.8, but I should have forked up the extra $$$ and gone with the Sony. Now, it's likely I just have a defective lens, but the shots went from bright, colorful, etc. to lacking focus, clarity and at times just a blank screen.

I've tried other lenses to confirm and the camera is working just fine. I could have received a bad lens, but if this is an indicator of the quality I am not impressed.
