5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price! Really shines at f2
Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2024
This is an APS-C format lens! It is not designed to nor will it fully illuminate a full frame sensor. It is L-Mount because there are crop sensor cameras with the L-Mount bayonet. Some of the reviews I read complain about severe vignetting, on full frame! Of course it will! It's an APS-C format lens! I am using this lens on a Sigma FP-L full frame camera with 1.5x crop mode enabled and this lens performs well above what its price would suggest. All of the following assume use on an APS-C format sensor or with APS-C mode/crop mode enabled on full format sensors. This lens has respectable sharpness at wide open f1.4 and is very sharp at f2. Edge sharpness is very good at f2 or higher but not bad at f1.4. I think that wide open f1.4 is usable but to me, f2 is where this lens shines for its price. Controls are super smooth and the graded apature stops are very nice. Focusing is smoother and precise. Don’t forget to turn focus peaking on in camera, since this is a manual lens you'll need it. This lens is for those that enjoy manual lenses and know what they are getting into. If you want simple point and shoot, get a auto focus lens. Build quality, fit and finish, and controls all look and feel premium. Metal body with thread on metal lens cap. Very nice. I am more than pleased with this lens. If this lens had cost double or triple it's current price, I would give it four stars because f1.4 is not as sharp as on premium lenses. But! It doesn't cost triple or double what it currently costs! This pens absolutely punches well above its price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful little all metal high value cheap lens for Leica T or other L mount camera
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2022
I've had a Leica T for a while. Wonderful camera with very expensive lenses. You can get adapters but it's nice to have native lenses that just clip in. I saw this puppy for 66 bucks and had to try it. You do need to stop it down from 1.4 but at 2.0 and up it renders very nice photos with f4 a good compromise that can isolate the background and render sharp centers. It handles very well and the build quality, for the price, is just amazing. I'm going to leave it on for quick shots. It is manual focus, eh? The T will allow you to enlarge the center of the frame to see if it's focused properly. It can get within a foot or so and at about 50mm effective, it's a great all purpose walk around lens at a laughably cheap price. What's not to like?

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a pefect lens. But, a USABLE tool with a great value for money.
Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024
The images I added are out-of-camera, with no editing. Taken at aperture of f5.6
at f1.4 the images are soft, with noticeable hallows.
From f2 and above it's usable. nice contrast. some aberrations at lower f-stops. mainly in the corners.
f4 to f8 - sharpness and image quality is great.
The lens is well-built, aperture and focus ring are nice to handle.

bottom line - not a perfect lens. but a real usable tool with a very low price point.
Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful lens, worth it!

The build quality, Ergonomics, and packaging of this lens is absolutely gorgeous. It’s just a joy to use this lens, and great value compared to EU made lenses.

I’m using this lens adapted to an A73 so I expected a little loss of sharpness and brightness in the corners... in fact it’s quite a bit better in the corners than an older real Leica lens I own (very small Leica made 35 1.4 that I’m guessing has fewer corrective elements than this one)... so pleasantly surprised.

Stopped down to 4 or 5.6 it really sharpens up enough for my purposes in the corners.

Wide open, in certain lighting conditions you can get some hazy loss of sharpness even at the center, but if you’re shooting in the shade it’s a little less problematic. Stopped down to f2 it pretty much resolves and is wonderfully sharp in the middle.

I would recommend this lens to anyone seeking a Leica feel, with decent but not pixel peep perfect image quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking Lens. Better quality than you would think.

I needed a quick lens to try out my Leica TL2. While waiting on my mega expensive Leica lens, I picked this one up just to have one. I was surprised by the solid feel, great look (really matches the Silver Aluminum of the beautiful Leica Camera).
I didnt expect much from an inexpensive (not going to call it cheap, cause feel & performance are NOT cheap).
A little soft on the edges, but for what it is I think its an outstanding value, and I'll be ordering more TTA lenses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Treat it as a 35/2.8 and you won't be disappointed
Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2020
Tiny, well made and downright gorgeously designed lens. At wider apertures, it isn't very impressive, but around f/4 and f/5.6 it is surprisingly sharp across the field (f/2 makes the center useable, f/2.8 is actually rather good). The lens of this size in the older times would probably be a 35/3.5 and if you use it as one, it will give you some good quality pictures. Color is neutral in temperature, but quite punchy. Microcontrast is moderate and the pictures respond well to sharpening. There is noticeable distortion and wide open, quite pronounced vignetting, which goes away a few stops down.

I think the only way to get rid of the distortion and improve resolution wide open would be to make imaging circle a big bigger, which, in turn, would make the lens bigger.

Ergonomically, I love the clicky aperture ring, but the focusing ring could have a wider grip. I understand that the lens diagram has to be there, but still, it would have been nice. The focus throw is quite short, so nailing focus at wider apertures can become challenging.

Edit: This lens is very good for crystal ball photogrpahy. With a 10mm extension ring, the ball fills the frame almost edge to edge.
