Worked pretty easily

I understood that going in on this software, that I would need to install it onto a stick that I could boot. I have a 500GB main drive that bolts directly to the cpu using a NVMe M.2 SSD. I burned a boot up disk and booted it up. I was able to clone it to a similar samsung drive. I now have two backup cloned disks in their own USB enclosures that I re-clone on a regular basis. If the drive crashes, it just takes a quick replacementto be back up and running! I didn't give any stars for tech support because I didn't use it. But everything else is pretty straightforward!

Amazing product and tech support

This is a product that does exacting what it is supposed to, with no muss or fuss. The first time that I wanted to create a backup with the new software, using a very large drive that already contained a previous backup, I did not understand how to exclude the backup drive from my sources. So, I contacted Acronis and they stepped me through everything. However, I then found I had an issue with the source drives that required some help from my technician. The software provided all the necessary tools so he could backup the data, fix the drives, and correctly restore all my data. I am just very impressed by the capabilities of this product and the support that I received from Acronis.

First impression is not too good

First off, when I got the empty box with the slip of paper giving me directions and the key, the website constantly said 502 BAD GATEWAY over and over again. I managed to do a back-door installation, set it up and ran the product. I immediately got a pop-up for the 2021 version at another $39..00! This is not a good first impression.

After trying and trying to backup to my D external drive, I managed to set it up.

With a non-working website and lousy instructions, I wouldn't say this is a user-friendly product,. Hope it'll work in the long run.

Like most products today, this is aimed at the basic consumer consumer experience, for people with advanced needs this product is annoying and frustrating. In my case, I need very frequent incremental backups, and I found out that my disk was filling up quickly with huge incremental backups even overnight while idle. Obviously, there are temp and state-maintaining files being touched and needed to be excluded.

That's when I found out that Acronis has two file systems, TIBX for device backup and TIB for file-based backup. TIBX files can be opened and browsed. Very large TIB files are so slow they effectively stall, so you CANNOT open them to see what is being backed up. There were other issues, exclusion masks didn't seem to work, outdated file deletions returned errors, among others.

Then I made the mistake of contacting tech support. Friendly and pleasant, but completely baffled. In the middle of my working day, I lost 1hr 10 minutes watching in horror as a tech poked by remote control around my system in full administrative mode, opening up event viewers, launching command windows, the task manager, the control panel - clearly baffled. ONE HOUR AND TEN MINUTES OF MY WORKING DAY, POKING AROUND WITH FULL RIGHTS TO MY SYSTEM, WITH A TECH WHO HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON.

Clearly I was dissatisfied, and tech support became concerned and then a months worth of phone calls and emails started as they attempted to solve the problem via email as I refused to have them touch my system again. That's when I found out that simply re-installing the product wouldn't work, I would need to run a cleanup utility, and they recommended a full backup before running the cleanup BECAUSE THE UTILITY MIGHT INTERFERE WITH YOUR BOOTUP PROCEDURE.

After over a month of back and forths with literally hundreds of gigabytes of data transfers and more hours lost while I tried things out at their request they did not find a solution. Acronis apparently does NOT have the diagnostic tools to solve problems this involved.

I tried EaseUS ToDo backup and their file browser was able to open the incremental backup files with no problem. However, their product is similarly modeled for basic consumers and has limitations that prevent you from monitoring and tailoring your backup strategy.

I will say that Acronis tried and wanted to solve the problem, but they couldn't. And that first hour and ten minutes of support left me with such a bad opinion of the company that tech support gets one star. User Interface and Easy to use get 2 stars because it's fine for people who don't really understand folder structures but not only poorly suited for advanced use, some features (like file exclusion, outdated file deletion) wouldn't work for me.

I know tech support will say they are still willing to work on this problem, but I have lost far too much time - and therefore money - on this product.

Software is easy to set up and configure. The user-interface and help section and pop-ups work well to explain the features. I was up and running in just a few hours of using the software. Now it's set it and forget it. It works without any addtional inputs and is much better than the Novastor software I had been using. To be fair, the Novastor version I had was about 8 years old, but was buggy and didn't run the back ups sometimes due to errors. Not sure if this was fixed in later Novastor versions, but I wasn't going to chance it.
