5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and pocketable
Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2022
I was able to get these to work on the Steam Deck using xboxdrv with udev triggers, to convert the Android inputs to Xbox pad. They stow in my backpack perfectly and give me durable, comfortable Xbox controllers on the go.
Some people don't like the south-aligned sticks, I prefer them. The analog triggers work fine, and the actuation distance for the digital press can be tweaked—a common complaint is that it is in the middle of the trigger pull from factory. It connects to Bluetooth quickly enough and has enough buttons to cover a full Xbox controller. The face buttons are well spaced for larger hands.
The only negative is that 8BitDo is likely contractually unable to update the firmware to allow for a saner button mapping or the PS/Xbox/PC/Switch hotswap support like with their other controllers. If only they sold the regular SN30's with analog triggers and full Xbox buttons...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great controller for Steam Deck!
Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2023
They don't really mention or market this, but this is a very good controller to carry with the Steam Deck. Unlike similar other 8bitdo controllers, this has analog triggers and the correct ABXY layout to emulate an XBox controller. While it doesn't work well with Windows (due to lack of X-input support) it picks up and maps perfectly on the Steam Deck, and is slim enough to slide into a pocket or bag to keep around for a second player.

This controller is great, the buttons and d-pad are nice and clicky, the share and menu buttons alongside the Xbox button all have a nice feel, the sticks are wonderful. The LB and RB are rather small to make space for the triggers but feel great nonetheless. The triggers are a mixed bag, they feel nice but are rarely if ever going to be used. I’ve confirmed this works on Windows 10/11 and a Nintendo Switch with the 8Bitdo Bluetooth adapter. Doesn’t work on iPhone works fine on Android.

5.0 out of 5 stars Xbox button layout in an SNES controller-sized package
Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2021
I originally bought this for some emulation stream-gaming onnmy tablet, but for a nice surprise, this functions quite well in Linux as well (sorry Windows users, I've heard nightmares about needing a mapper/translator).

So, for Android, no additional apps are needed for functionality out of the box. I've fully tested functionality in multiple emulators, such as PPSSPP, Dolphin, among a few others, and with Moonlight in game streaming. No delays or latency outside of normal Bluetooth controllers, and bonus, it works via USB C as well, wired directly into the tablet.

On Linux, I also tested in emulators, such as rpcs3, and games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, Doom Eternal, and more. No additional setup or applications were needed for full functionality in these games (PC games were played through Lutris). I played using both Bluetooth and wired by USB, again, much like Android, there were no issues with either method.

Battery life has been good so far, I've gotten through a couple of hours gaming without charging, and not noticing much drop in charge.

Android and Linux gamers will be well served with this controller. This is going into my laptop bag, replacing my XBox One controller (which is now with the youngest kid for her setup). I cannot comment on use within Windows; you'll be on your own to find a working solution.

Special note: if you have larger hands, this may take some getting used to. For younger gamers, or adults with smaller hands, this will be perfect. My hands are on the larger side, but after playing through a few games, I felt right at home, like with the SNES back in the day (now with triggers and thumb sticks!).

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT FOR TRAVEL & iPAD | iPhone
Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2024
This is just what I needed, perfect size for travel. It’s smaller than an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Perfect to attach to my iPad Pro Magic Keyboard with a small velcro. Works with all the Emulators.

The XBOX version comes with the Xbox button which is useful with emulators to access the Quick Menu section. (This Xbox button is NOT available in the other SNES 8bitDo SN30 Controller versions). Also the Xbox version has soft D-pad and soft Trigger buttons which is perfect for fighting and Racing games. The Other SNES classics have a more clicky feel which I don’t like.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed...
Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2022
I had so much hope for this product, but it let me down big time. I purchased this to play Xcloud on my new Android tablet, I thought it looked pretty cool. So it synced up fine but for the life of me I could not get the LT and RT triggers to register at all. I searched all over the internet for help and realized A LOT of people were have the exact same issue. Supposedly the triggers are analog and you have to switch them into digital mode, with a button combination. So I gave the combination a try and... NOTHING ever happened. The combos weren't working. I finally decided just to return the product and save myself some trouble.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior quality in a compact design.

We synced this to our Chromecast with Android TV and it was up and running in less than 2min. All the buttons are very snappy and come preconfigured with Google Stadia, GForce Now and Xbox xcloud. The controller is a little small but all streaming platforms froms responded with precision controls. Played the Division 2, Diablo 3, Overwatch on our Win gaming machine. The controller even responds better than my actual 2021 Xbox controller for all platforms. Now the best thing about it is, it functions as a complete replacement remote for Google Chromecast with Android TV. All the buttons are configured to control Android TV just like it was an Xbox. This controller feels better than my actual Stadia controller. I recommend this for anyone who needs a high quality Bluetooth controller ????.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works but has constant lag spikes
Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2023
The controller does work but there’s plenty of Bluetooth lag that follows with it. Most of the time it works great but the frequent lag spikes get frustrating.
