I will start by saying that I am coming at this from the perspective of someone who is not an accomplished artist, and especially not a digital artist. I am, though, "art-curious", and so I wanted to see if there was a program outside of Photoshop that I could use to teach myself digital painting when I have some free time here and there.
Installation is quick and easy, and you can jump into the program pretty fast. Now, to jump to the punchline: Is it easy to pick up as a novice? No. Is it *easier* than alternatives for a novice? So far, yes. If nothing else, the wide range of brushes and color options available from moment one make it simple to jump in and mess around, getting a feel for how it works. You can also make so many adjustments to the brushes to fine tune what you're looking for. Honestly, for a beginner it's a bit intimidating, but I can imagine that as I'm able to really get some expertise, it will make for some awesome opportunities.
Ultimately, one thing that absolutely cannot be overlooked is the fact that this is a perpetual license. In an age of nonstop subscriptions, this is very refreshing. Basically, if you use this instead of Photoshop for painting purposes, it pays for itself before the third month is done. I appreciate that this is offered, and as someone who's going to be tinkering around with this casually for a long time, it definitely helps my bank account.
