Got these to bring back some wine from Napa to Florida. Put the wine in these bags and into an extremely over packed suitcase and flew across country. The wine arrived in one piece.

I don't usually travel with wine in my suitcase on a plane but I do bring wine with me when I cruise (you're usually allowed to bring 2 bottles of wine in your carry-on and I buy the wine before I board the ship) and that's the main reason I got these. I'm not sure I would use them on a plane where my luggage would be thrown around; and that's why I'm also not sure whether to give these 3 or 4 stars. (I ultimately gave them 4 stars because they are good for the reason I got them). Here are the pros and cons:

I like that these protectors are reusable and lay flat when not being used. It makes storage very easy (I have another type of protector that is very bulky and I don't like that). Wrapping the bottle in the protector is also very easy - just insert the bottle into the bubble wrap inside the protector, close it up and you're done (no need to blow up the protector with another device). The zipper part and then the double fold Velcro both add another layer of protection which don't allow the bottle to spill out. The size of the protector also allows for larger wine bottles (or any large bottle of liquid) to be protected.

Cons - It was initially confusing about how to use the protector. The outside of the protector says to put the bubble wrap around the bottle and insert it into the outer layer. However, the bubble wrap is already inside the outer layer and attached inside. I went back to the description on Amazon and that said to insert the bottle into the bubble wrap already inside. That made more sense. The bubble wrap is nothing special. It offers regular protection. I think if I were to use these protectors in checked in luggage on a plane I would probably use another layer of bubble wrap that I would get myself. A 750 ml bottle of wine, once inserted into the protector, has room to move around. If one had a larger bottle it would fit the protector better because there wouldn't be as much room to move around. As I stated before, the size can be a plus for many people but it isn't for my needs. One piece that is lacking in this product is an extra layer of absorbency. If the bottle broke, the zipper and double Velcro would prevent spilling but it's not something I want to try out.

Overall, I gave this 4 stars because it does fit my specific needs (I need protection in my carry on only). I might have given it 3 stars if I were to use it for travel in luggage that would be thrown around. It might work fine that way, but I don't want to be the one to try that out.
