When Hate Turns to Love

When I first got this a couple years ago, I wanted to give it a negative one star. I felt like I'd wasted too much time trying to get this thing onto my computer. It seemed I couldn't load it onto my PC OR laptop... all I got is a "Smilebox" shortcut.
I thought I had un-installed the old Print Shop off my computer. Perhaps I hadn't done that correctly. I'm not THAT techie...
Eventually, this one finally worked properly. Maybe there were some previous glitches that these guys resolved. In any case, once it was finally up and running on my computer, it was wonderful. A little different than the older products I've had of theirs. But pretty cool. I was thrilled to find that many of my old projects could still be opened and edited. There might have been a few things lost in the translation, but most everything works pretty great with this version. So... I've upped this to 5 stars :)

It is utter garbage, essentially a scam. There's nothing on installation CD (not even a DVD), no images and no good templates, really nothing, just a pile of junk images from early 90x of previous century. The "application" is essentially a browser for their online services, which is considering its price and "professional" designation is especially annoying. All the templates it installs are miserable. laughable, pathetic, moronic. I'm wondering who is this company approved such "product" for release? Unless he/she was bribed by a competition. Wanna better template, sure thing baby, they are available for $5.99 each from their template store. Rest assured, their template store offerings are equally miserable.
The included stock images are just so BAD, so low in quality I would be ashamed to use it even for kids birthday event. This garbage is total disrespect to customers, total shame and scam. Never again we would purchase anything or from any company that is associated with Broderbund.
In a course of years I purchased lots of software, some were better than other, but as far as my experience goes I never had to deal with such shameful junk as this PrinShop Professional 3.5. So in a way I'm impressed by you guys.

Not worth the upgrade.

When you buy an upgrade such as going from version 23 to this new version, you expect that the program is going to be better not worse. This is not the case. This version has some new features, but they have also taken away a lot of things that I used daily. They went from having the person using the program controlling the output, to have the program decide what you want, thus taking away your flexibilty and control. For example: The ability to manually manipulate spacing beyond the norm using the point system instead of the line spacing spacing is no longer available. Now you can only use single, 1 1/2, and double spacing instead of before when you could go .75 points, to shrink below the single line spacing. The ability to play with the adjustment and rotation of objects so they match each other perfectly is now gone -- the small measure in the corner which told you if you were lined up 34 degrees, or 180, of 360 or anywhere in between is not there anymore. Now you play with the ratation cursor until it looks correct and it is very difficult to play with. The cliparts are laid out in such a way that is not as easy to view, and also, when you have something on disk that you want to use, you need to import it, and it is imported into one large file. Once it is imported it is viewed for each project. Before I use to put cliparts relating to certain subjects in certain files, so I would know that if I was doing Christmas stuff where to look. Now I have to go through everything to find what I want. Everything seems to be on the internet instead of on disk so if your internet is down, you cannot access the graphics. I live in an area where my internet is always down so it makes it difficult to work on. And finally, the Program is completely new and as such is volatile -- it crashes easily.

I have used the Printshop products for years and I feel this is one of their better editions of the product

I read quite a few negative reviews, however, I like the software overall, However I am including my own wishlist of things that may help improve the software. I am running it on Windows 10 pro on a new gaming rig with no errors or problems. I have used the Printshop products for years and I feel this is one of their better editions of the product. I really love the new interface. I find the printshop useful l as I have a lot of clipart and photographs. It allows me to import my own clipart of which I have downloaded from 3rd party sites such as Iclipart. I also love the fact that you can buy and download the "PrintShopPacks" from the website. There are many that are inexpensive and/or free. I miss the custom frame option from older versions but am able to create custom banners and frames within the shapes by importing an image and tiling it or group objects together so I am happy.

A few ideas and comments to the developers as far as my own "wish list" for future versions:

Build an "undo" "redo" button at the top.
Bring back the custom Frame editor
After Grouping multiple selections, give the grouped object the ability to be resized.
Improve upon the photo image editor's capability with Effects and filters
Make the software compatible with 3rd party photo filters much like Corel's Paintshop Pro.
Ensure backwards compatibility
Note: I am unable to save as a pdf, however I am using Adobe Creative Cloud so am OK with saving as a JPEG and then converting to pdf using the Adobe software. I am not sure how the software would function if I did not already have the professional version of Adobe Acrobat, but am not willing to change my computers settings to accommodate the Printshop pdf printer

Fine product - she has had a copy on every computer she has had for years. Had a few worries because some of the reviews weren't so hot - but it is exactly what it always was - an easy to use way to make usable, creative projects.
