5.0 out of 5 stars Genuine medical insight and hope on the cutting-edge of mind body illness, treatments and healing.

Donna uses her great writing skill to turn mind bossy clinical talk into a flowing style that is easy to read and understand. You root for patients she walks alongside as they try cutting edge treatment for their resistant diseases and conditions. At the same time she builds a crescendo of hope fo people with autoimmune diseases and difficult to tame mental health conditions

I’ve put my money where these written words are as I have sent to my loved ones who suffer from autoimmune and trauma as well as my dear ones in the medical field copies of The Angel and the Assassin. Hopefully spreading the word of hope that is in the forefront of Donna’s eloquent book!(

5.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly good book

This book is easy to read (for this type of book) and is very informative. Maybe in a few years the research will progress and the author can write a follow-up book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book! Fine print.

I purchased the hardcover several years back, and misplaced it. Thought I'd get the paperback until my other turns up. Love to discuss the findings in this book with others! My ONLY COMPLAINT... I have old eyes, and use bifocals to read. This would be SO much more enjoyable if the font was twice what it is. It almost hurts to read it for any length of time. Please publish a LARGE PRINT version! Thank you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brain House Keeping Amok?
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2021
Interesting to learn how medicine has overlooked crucial details of brain operators like microglia cells. The book describes the discovery of critical brain cellular processes that keep us healthy (Angel) or makes sick (assassin). Much of the text is personal accounts by doctors and patients learning together that microglia cells were controlling their conditions. I read fast through the diary portions and perk up around the use of the new knowledge. So I've tried 40 Hz "flashing" stimulus and intermittent fasting to encourage healthy microglia responses (angelic). Unknown if this works for me, but fun to try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mindbending!

I thought I was reasonably well informed about current trends in neuroscience, but much of the content here was brand new to me. Nakazawa is a fine writer which I already knew from her earlier work. Here she deftly creates a stunning narrative that upends conventional thinking about the brain and challenges many assumptions about mental and physical health - spoiler alert: at long last the dividing line between mental and physical wellbeing disappears. Outstanding work, I read it in one sitting.

This book is compelling and extremely interesting! She has really updated research and data that she discusses and her presentation of the material is very accessible. I enjoyed this book very much and have talked about it a lot since finishing it! The author is on Instagram as well and is engaging on that platform.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must read for anyone who is going through a mental illness

There is hope on the horizon for treating the largest medical issue we have in the country, mental illness, emotional and physical. Donna Nakazawa as a brilliant journalist has made this readable for the average person and given very good accountings of the science and practical uses of these ways of treating symptoms of mental illness. Can wait to read it again. I am a CranioSacral Therapist and know how our work addresses the microglia.
