5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the casual observer. Insta focus is great.

I debated long and hard about 12x50 vs 10x50. The first number is magnification, 12 seems better right?
BUT - reviews said that 12 times is much more difficult to prevent 'shake" (it's difficult to be that steady), and 10 times zoon is about the edge of what most people can do.
Also - hoe far are you trying to see?

I'm using these pretty much only from inside my house, which overlooks a lake about 1/2 mile to other shore. These are powerful enough for that.

The 50 is the size of the lens that allows the light in - bigger means a brighter image, but comes at the cost of weight. I'm not carrying these around, so the weight isn't an issue. They're not super heavy, but I wouldn't want to carry them around all day. Maybe if I went on a hike with a backpack I'd bring them, but I wouldn't be walking with them hanging around my neck.

The insta focus is great. Very easy to use and FAST.

The only downside is that I wish the lens covers / caps were connected together, they're too easy to misplace. Still giving it 5 stars though - this is a minor issue.

Summary : Great binoculars for a beginner / casual user. Seem sturdy. Easy to use. Not too heavy,

5.0 out of 5 stars Great View at a Great Price

For the low price I was expecting low budget binoculars, but was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and separate eye focus ease. I have other lower powered binoculars that do not provide this level of clarity. The others are handy for their compactness. This 10x50 is not a compact unit, however they provide a wider view letting in lots of light. It would have been nicer if they came with an impact resistant carrying case, instead of the soft case. That probably could have been added for only a couple bucks more.

Still, for the price, clarity and quality I am happy with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pair of binoculars for the price, but just two small issues.

I was in the market for binoculars primarily because I wanted to go stargazing. I wanted something with a 50mm objective lens because research has told me that a large objective lens allows more light.

I chose this product due to the overall great reviews on this product, as well as the price. I can comfortably say that I do not regret buying this binocular, because they really are great. They feel very durable. The box it comes in is rather thin and flimsy, but it includes a neck strap and a carrying case, which is very convenient.

Moving on to the actual performance. I am very impressed with the binoculars. The image quality is very clear, and the insta-focus works well. It took a while for me to learn how to use it because I have never used any device with a focusing mechanism before, but it was very easy. You simply move the lever on the middle of the binocular to adjust. Moving it to the left allows you to focus on further objects, and moving it to the right allows you to focus on closer objects.

That being said though, I'm a little concerned about the long-term durability of the insta-focus mechanism. Every time I push the lever to the left, I hear a flimsy crunching sound, similar to the sound of the exoskeleton of a bug being crushed. In addition, it seems easier to push the lever to the left than it is to push it to the right. I am wondering if this will affect the binocular in the long term, but since the included paperwork states that the binocular has a lifetime defect-free warranty, I don't think I will be returning these anytime soon.

Another problem that I have with this binocular is a problem that other reviewers have wrote about, which are the lens caps. You get two large lens caps for the objective lens and they fit fine and stay on. However, the smaller lens caps for the eyepieces are a bit too loose and therefore fall off very easily.

But all things considered, I am satisfied with these. The lens caps are no big deal; chances are you will not want to spend a few moments taking off the lens caps before using the binocular if you want to see something quickly so you might even leave the lens caps at home. While the insta-focus does not sound pleasant, it works very well. I was able to focus on stars at night. And of course, always remember the price of this: $31 USD. This is a fraction of the price of other binoculars, but actually gets the job done rather well.

5.0 out of 5 stars good quality for good price

I bought the Celestron 15-30 zoom field glasses (~$125) to complement a wide field of view binocular which has since disappeared. The evaluations of the Celestron were correct that it was great for distance viewing but the very heavy which got old quickly. I got these to complement those and could not believe the price for the quality. Key features are the wide field of view and fast / easy focusing. It has the quality I expected for something with a brand name like Bushnell, but it clearly doesn't have the performance of a ~$2-300 marine binocular or a high end birding binocular. And I still haven't decided if the focus point of the 2 imaging systems remains constant with distance meaning you have to do a diopter correction at each distance, or if I am demanding too much out of an intermediate grade binocular, or if my eyes are just screwed up. But $40 is a pretty low price for this much high tech.

And I read someone complain about the case. The case that came with this (versus the one I bought years ago) is an order of magnitude better. Not the highest quality but pretty good for a case included effectively for free.
