These are delicious and this particular flavor, Korean BBQ, is lowest in salt so that makes them even better. I love this stuff!

Initial review: Gross. Just not good. I was hopeful. (originally 2 stars)

Update (5/2022): I came back to update my review after the owner of Moku reached out to me directly to offer me a free sample now they Moku has updated their recipe. I said I would give them a shot and, if appropriate, I would update my review.

I currently have the Original flavor on my desk as I write this update. The first time I tried this jerky it was simply just not good. At all. It tasted awful. I honestly have to say that this jerky does taste much better. It is not a meat based jerky so I do not expect it to taste exactly like a meat based jerky. That said, it is not far off! I am looking forward to trying the other flavors as well, but if you are looking for a meatless jerky this is truly not a bad option at all! I am very impressed with their updated recipe - this is clearly a company run by good people who actually read and respond directly to customer reviews. Not only this, but they actually listen and make changes after receiving feedback.

If you are looking for a meatless jerky, you have found a good option here!

I just want to say as much as I would like to be vegetarian, I am not. Although I limit my meat consumption, I love the flavor it offers as someone who loves to cook and eat. I love jerky, but as someone who eats little meat, especially red meat, it’s kind of off the table. With that in mind, I’ve tried a lot of plant based jerky and never return as a regular customer because it never lives up to the hype. I found Moku by accident searching for a low carb snack and here’s what I can tell you. It’s like crack. Not only is it delicious, like can’t stop won’t stop delicious, the texture is really close. The closest I’ve ever experienced. My husband is a steak and potatoes guy. I gave him some without telling him that it was plant based and he complimented the texture saying it was softer than some of the other brands we’ve tried. My husband is a stubborn, skeptic. I was shocked that he liked it as much as he did without question. I wish they sold it in larger quantities or bags with multiple servings because my little ones loved it too!

I have spent so long not eating jerky because the ones I like most are high in carbs. I am trying to eat less meat, more plants, less sugar. Sometimes jerky is too chewy, sometimes it is too sweet, it's very hard to find one that fills the jerky craving without the associated guilt. I was so excited to learn about Moku. A friend mentioned to me that the taste was incredible, so I wanted to see whether it was possible for mushroom jerky to be a thing. I can 100% attest to the fact that it is amazing. I was expecting dry and chewy. Instead it feels like real food with thick and density to help you feel full, while still giving you a chewing workout- without any flaky dry pieces. Flavors are just right- not too sweet, not too salty yet full of flavor. You can definitely tell the flavors have been balanced by a is chef. I am impressed. I will be back for more Moku!

Nope. I couldn't do it. Chewy, slightly slimy mushroom strips. Yum. First, the good.

- No animals died to provide this edible.
- The flavor is pretty OK. I wanted more heat/less sweet in the Sweet & Spicy, though.

That's it. I couldn't do it. I tossed out most of it. Nope. Now here's the thing.

If you've had real jerky, don't bother with substitutes like this. You will be sadly disappointed. Really. Even if you've never had the real thing, you'll probably wish you hadn't. Anyway, I don't often toss stuff out that I order on here to "try", but in this case, into the receptacle it went.

I've had other "vegan" and plant-based jerky-like food things before. None of them were good. These were particularly not good. Even the smell was a tad bit stomach turning. Kinda sour, earthy, funky. Gets me a little thinking about it.

If this is where plant-based jerky substitutes are, I'd rather not. I try to eat plant-based most of the time, but if I've got a hankering for jerky, I'll buy a bag of (way too expensive) real jerky.

Uhm, interesting enough flavors, and texture. As something to munch on, or bite, it is ok, maybe?

Other than having flavors which jerky can have, I would not label or refer to it as jerky.

As for the main ingredient, mushroom, I tried munching on uncooked mushrooms for comparison. Different flavor, equally meh.

These may have a place in some people's snack bin. I'd rather munch on sauteed mushrooms and other jerky (vegan or not).

First of all, I’ll start with why I knocked one star off... yes, a serving size is shown as one whole bag, but in my opinion and that of others (as seen in other reviews), eating an entire bag can be a bit much. Please add a way to make it resealable!
Second reason I knocked a star off... THIS IS NOT “PLANT-BASED”! Mushrooms are fungi and are not considered plants!

Taste and texture and great! I prefer the really tough beef jerky you can shred, and this hits that feeling spot-on. I’ve only tried the sweet and spicy, and it’s really, really good. The value for the price is comparable to beef jerky but you’d think it would be less considering you’re making less of an environmental impact and the whole process requires much less real estate and resources. I bought some soy (actual plant-based) jerky a while back and couldn’t even finish ONE piece. It was almost $10 for a small bag and was horrible. This mushroom jerky is AWESOME, and I’m definitely going to be buying it again. I ate all 3 bags in 4 days.
