Good Price on Corel Update for up to 3 home Computers

I had Corel X6 on my laptops and was having issues and decided to update. I would have liked to purchase the X9 package on sale for same price but it only allows for 2 licensed upgrades. I wanted to upgrade my desktop as well so I went for X8 that allows for use on 3 personal devices. I have used Corel for decades and love it not only for its features and ease of use but also because they have NOT gone to the subscription model. I stopped using brand A years ago when they went to the subscription model. I believe a lot of users feel this way but wish Corel would stick with 3 licensed computers for personal use. I only use one computer at a time as is intended but it gives me the flexibility to have a laptop at a second home in a location without any Internet service so I don't have to lug it on the plane.

Bought it for PhotoPaint X8

I have been using Corel PhotoPaint as an alternative to PhotoShop for years and years. Now you can only buy it as part of the whole CorelDraw Suite, but luckily if you only use it to make fun graphics for personal use, as I do, you can get the Home & Student edition for just $89. I used an older version, 4, for around a decade, installing it on every new computer, until I hit a wall with Windows 10 where it was incompatible. Last year I bought the X7 suite and that worked, but when I got a new Surface Pro 2017 a few days ago, X7 appeared to install properly but when I tried to launch it, I got an error message that said "Corel PhotoPaint has stopped working." Same with Draw.

I did a repair, tried the old F8 and reset to factory defaults trick, even uninstalled and reinstalled, but nothing worked. Okay, I figured they were going to force me to upgrade to X8. So I bit the bullet and bought the license here on Amazon, downloaded the software, went through the installation routine again (after deleting X7 again) and ... same error message when I tried to open it.

Back to researching the issue. Almost an hour of research later, I finally stumbled upon the solution. You have to go into the Color Management settings and add the sRGB IE61966-2.1 profile and set it as the default. Then you have to go to the system32/spool/drivers/color folder on the hard drive, create a new SurfaceProfiles folder there, and move the surface-srbg.icm and surface-srgb-enhanced.icm files into it.

Well, of course, anyone could have figured THAT out, right? But it did work. And I have a sneaking suspicion it would have also worked with CorelDraw X7 and I wouldn't have had to buy X8 if I'd found it earlier. So if you're reading this because of that same problem with X7, you might want to give the above solution a try before you spring for X8.

As for the program itself, it works great but I'm not seeing any significant changes from X7. Which is fine with me -- I hate when software vendors change up the interface on you or take away features you needed.

SO GOOD TO have Corel in my life again!

I finally got a new PC... had an Apple for a couple years AND HATED IT and its EVIL design software Adobe Photoshop and others!!!...The one main reason I hated Apple was that I couldn't use CorelDRAW on it. I am SO HAPPY to be home and have a new copy of Corel!!! Great package! I literally said... Ahhhhhh when I opened it up and designed my first form. I have had almost every version since the first ...Corel 1 so I could use it instantly! I will say this though, I bought this Home 2016 version 1 week before the Full version of Corel 2017 came out. The home version 2017 isn't out yet but I MIGHT have chosen differently had I known there was a new release right around the corner.

OH! And one more thing... this is a GREAT price! It is almost twice this on the Corel site!

No Dark Theme Available :( (Buy the "Academic" version)

One of the things I was very excited about was the ability to change to a dark theme to resemble the look of Adobe Illustrator.
This is the only thing that had held me back from buying Corel Draw products.
But it seems it's not available in this home & student version only in the full version which is a huge disappointment.
It's difficult to spend much time working on something when everything is so bright. My eyes
get tired quick and I know I'm not the only that has complained about it. I just don't get why
they couldn't have added that feature.

The only cheap solution is to create a large dark square bigger than the canvas and lock the layer then work on top of it.
Other than that I truly love the rest of the software the call out tools are great and also the dimension tools
which Adobe Illustrator lacks. There are many other features I do enjoy over Illustrator. And I guess for the price
I shouldn't complaint so much.

After doing some research it seems there is another version called "CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8 Academic"

Which is only a few dollars more expensive but seems to have more features than this version, from the screen shots
it seems to have the dark theme too. So go buy that one if you're a STUDENT!!
NOTE: if you're not a student you'll have to get this one since the "Academic" one will most likely require
a school email for verification.
