I used to own the version 1 of faces and I am not sure what the difference is between the 3 versions (possibly more facial parts) after searching forever to find FACES again Amazon was the only one I could find that actually carried it. the company that made the program no longer exists so any FACES program will be used. this version was made for windows 95-98 and I am happy to report (since no one else has mentioned this) that FACES is 100% compatible with Windows 7 and works faster than some modern programs. one interesting feature that FACES has that frankly is rarely seen any more is that while like every other program you can do a new complete install (which is pretty fast) but you also have the ability to run the program from the CD with out doing any installing so you can take the CD to a friends house and just have fun playing around with the program. (I did that with a friend of mine and created her "new boyfriend" and posted it on facebook just to mess with a few people (it was pretty funny how long we had one of her friends thinking her "BF" was real)
this program was VERY popular 15-20 years ago during the heyday of america's most wanted TV show. it was sold due to popular demand because the program produced such realistic faces for the TV show's "police artist's rendering of a describe suspect and because the end result helped to capture huge amounts of criminals. however I have found a more practical use for FACES in effect adding a higher value to the program itself. I use it for making bump maps for 3D objects in 3DS Max and Maya. perfect for carved faces in materials such as stone or wood carvings but even more effective is for character faces for realistic human faces since finding good references for that are so hard to find due to the nature of photography making a perfectly symmetrical shot of a persons face VERY difficult to do and then you have to deal with lighting conditions in the face map. I could go more into it but the fact is if you are into using 3D programs you will know what I'm talking about and see the big value in this program. for every one else its only really good for playing around and having it "just in case" that some one you don't know does something and then you have a way to show the cops who to look for.
