About this item

Love kills kingdoms …

Back in Grim’s castle on Nightshade, Isla is reeling in the wake of a brutal battle and the devastating truths it exposed. Her future—and the fate of the world—now hinge on a heart split in two.

Past Isla, who fell in love with the ruler of Nightshade, fights to resist feelings she considers treasonous. The Isla of the present, who has seen the ruin her powers can cause, will do anything to save Lightlark and its king.

As the line between enemy and friend is tested, Isla is more desperate than ever to understand the oracle’s final prophecy and change her heartrending fate. But a storm is coming. And with it, a long-buried evil greater than anything the realms have faced before.

With the clock ticking on her destiny and the survival of two warring kingdoms hinging on her own shattered heart, Isla Crown will either save the world—or destroy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOAH!! Great continuation to the Lightlark story!!

!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!

I was so excited to dive into Skyshade, the third book in the Lightlark series, and it did not disappoint! I finished it in less than 24 hours!! This installment takes us back to Grim’s castle on Nightshade, where Isla is slowly regaining her lost memories—and with them, a complex love-hate relationship with Grim. She’s trying to come to terms with the fact that she’s his wife, a revelation that feels even more complicated because she had fallen for Oro. The emotional tension is intense as she navigates her feelings for both Grim and Oro, making the romance feel both thrilling and bittersweet.

The story starts with a slower build, but once it hits the halfway point, the stakes rise dramatically. Isla discovers that a long-lost family member, once thought dead, has returned with a vengeance, threatening everything and everyone she cares about. This revelation leads to an epic buildup toward a battle against an army of undead, and Isla proves herself to be a fierce and resilient heroine, keeping secrets and making tough choices to protect her world.

The romantic tension here was unexpectedly spicy, with a solid 3/5 on the spice scale, adding an intensity that kept me hooked. The romance balances well with the plot, enhancing Isla’s character without overshadowing the action.

While the beginning was a bit slow, the action-packed second half made up for it, and the ending left me both surprised and excited. I guessed the cliffhanger twist a few chapters before it happened, but it was still satisfying. Isla’s journey into a portal leading to another universe sets up for a new direction, and I can’t wait to see where this twist takes her next.

Overall, Skyshade is a thrilling continuation of the Lightlark series, with romance, high-stakes battles, and a cliffhanger that promises even more. I’m giving this one a strong 4.5 out of 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bittersweet feelings about this book…

There are an embarassing number of typos in this book (especially for a traditionally published novel). It’s astounding that so many mistakes manage to make it through repeated screening. If Alex is seeking a beta-reader, I would honestly do it in a heartbeat.

This story is fun as always, I have enjoyed Isla’s personal and romantic journey since book one of the series and I’m eager to see how her story will ultimately end.

The sexual content in this book has grown significantly less juvenile, to a point that I worry it extends beyond the reasonable limits of YA.

This was SUCH an anticipated read for me. And while I did absolutely devour it, I’m giving it 3.5 stars. This was a good book, there was a lot of action, but there wasn’t any high stakes fights or mysteries that needed to be solved. Anything that went wrong was solved almost immediately and without a second thought from any character. They put together things in their head that I was never privy to, as the reader. I hate the way the love triangle is going because she is no closer to picking anyone than when she started. She remarried Grim and loves him and is with him and the next second she sees Oro and is falling in love with him and forgets about Grim? I just don’t love the auto resolution of every problem other than them. I will continue the series because I DO love the characters and world, but this book was really just frustrating for me.

Just like the previous two, I ate this book up. This did seem to have a rocky start (the scenes tended to switch abruptly, making the story feel very choppy at times), but I’m so invested that I couldn’t get enough ????????‍♀️ I absolutely LOVED Grim in this book (again). He was completely devoted to regaining trust that was broken, & did everything with Isla’s best interest in mind. Isla & Oro, on the other hand, drove me bananas. (Spoilers for book 2 ahead) First off, it was so hypocritical how Isla wouldn’t use the portal because she didn’t want any harm to come to Oro (& his people), but then every time Isla turns around she’s putting herself in deathly situations knowing damn well if she gets k!lled, so will Grim & all of Nightshade since their lives are all tethered to hers. Second, it gave me the ick how Oro kept perusing Isla after finding out she was married. I could understand if Grim just kidnapped her at the end of Nightbane, but she told Oro that she loved Grim too & went with him willingly (which Oro knew to be true bc of his little lie detector gift). Bro, she’s married. Just stop. I also hated how Isla acted later on with Oro bc I felt like it was so inappropriate & selfish. I loved the little bit of spice, but enough of the love triangle. At this point, I wish Isla & Oro would sacrifice themselves & just leave Grim please✌????

What an exciting and epic adventure. The story brought all of the characters back including a few historical characters believe gone centuries ago. Isla is strong and learns so much about herself throughout this journey. The cliffhanger ending is horrendous torture. Now I have to wait forever to find out what happens with Isla.

Skyshade is the third book in the Lightlark series. Isla has all her memories back, and has returned with Grim to Nightshade where they must puzzle out some problems to save their lives and save the world. So, unfortunately, this was my least favorite book of the series and I'm disappointed because I wanted to love it. It comes across as a filler book, which makes sense now that we know that there is one more main book in the series. Since it seems to be a filler book, it's just Isla portaling here and there and everywhere. The book also has a lot of back and forth with Isla trying to figure out her love triangle. There is a big revelation that will continue to be important in book 4, but overall I didn't think it was that interesting. This is a 3 star book for me.
