Someone earlier had commented (with a 1 star review) that they thought it was a joystick. I'm assuming they thought it was a "analog joystick" but the description does in fact say "rocker joystick" and it also says 5 way directional switch. For anyone that actually knows what they're looking for, that description is plenty clear enough. For people who don't have a clue what they're doing, sure I could see the mis-understanding. Nevertheless, it was said persons fault, not the fault of the company for him buying the wrong part.

To be clear, this is a 5 way directional switch. Not analog. It's the same switch used in the top hat switches on fight sticks. It clicks a single button press Up, Left, Right, Down and Press (down on the Z axis). It is NOT a analog joystick like the thumbsticks on an xbox controller. Please read thoroughly before posting petty reviews and blaming the seller for your own incompetence.

That said, very good switch, crisp button presses. Works flawlessly in my flight stick project. The circuit board makes mounting this easy. Designed and printed my own "china hat" cap for the switch and it looks and feels great!

These work well if you are trying to make your own gamepad/controller, but double check the continuity between ground and each of the inputs.
One out of the five had the down direction not work, so check everything before you start trying to work on your project.
Also, if you're desoldering the pins already on the board, go very slow. I almost removed 2 of the pads when removing the pins.

When using the term “joystick“ a smooth moving knob (allowing control of a little to a lot of “go”) , having both X and Y directions available, is the image that pops up in my head— this item does not match that idea! This is not so much a “joystick” as a single knob that clicks in 4 directions and again straight down.

For those familiar with electrical components: A traditional joystick operates in much the same way as two potentiometers. **This item is set up more like 5 push down/pull up resistors (or buttons)**

I’m sure it will work in a project that only has speeds of ‘ Stop and go’.... unfortunately not the project I’m currently working.

5 way? No diagonal? It does. All tech reviews act like "oh you could technically use it for games". Accurate, easy to install, very versatile. Not a 10 point potentiometer, so you don't get subtle slow precision or extreme accuracy that way, but more like a plus pad. Does have push down button too. I recommend if building tiny arcades or old-school 2d games.

Excellent switch stick for projects. Works great for menu navigation, one of the switches had the "Set" button stick on for me a few times, but the rest are fine, thus one star. Were it not for that, they're 5 Star all the way. I've not had a problem with the joystick sticking, only the set button, and only on 1 of the 5 switches. I swapped to use the other button as only one was needed after all the functionality of the joystick.
Very handy to have on hand with a connector which plugs right into a breadboard. The board also has has mounting holes so it can be added to a project box and a ribbon jumper down to the circuit board. Pins come per-soldered and these are a great deal, ready to use right out of the box.

Easy to interface to with any microcontroller (PIC/AVR/RPi/ESP32/STM/Arduino/etc), one side of all switches is tied to common, which you can tie to ground or high. I tied to ground and use internal CPU pullup resistors to bring line low on activation. The opposite can be done as well.
