About this item
From the New York Times bestselling author and cohost of chart-topping true crime podcast Morbid comes the thrilling book two in her national bestselling series, told from the dueling perspectives of a notorious serial killer and a medical examiner seeking justice.
Destruction follows the ruthless serial killer, Jeremy Rose, the Bayou Butcher, as he heads north to evade capture for his horrific crimes. As he seeks safe harbor with a former friend, he remains focused on unfinished business with forensic pathologist Dr. Wren Muller, the only target who’s ever escaped him—twice. But not this time. He’s determined to make Wren suffer, and he’s promised to make her play by his own twisted rules.
Still in shock over the harrowing encounter with her old nemesis, Wren is on forced medical leave in New Orleans, attempting to mend the deep scars of her traumatic past. But with growing evidence that Jeremy is leaving a fresh trail of mutilated victims across Massachusetts, Wren realizes the best way to heal is to renew her pursuit of this vicious killer. She sets her sights on Jeremy, only to discover that she may have walked directly into his trap. As their twisted cat-and-mouse game rachets up to a violent clash of good versus evil, Wren prepares to sacrifice everything to bring Jeremy to justice.
With intense true-to-life details from autopsy technician and Morbid podcast cohost, Alaina Urquhart, The Butcher Game is a gripping addition to the New York Times bestselling Dr. Wren Muller series.

The plot was great in book one, the Butcher and the Wren, if a little shaky in spots. The Butcher Game blew away my every expectation. Not just a deliciously interesting and nuanced plot—with a deepening of primary characters relationships and back stories— it’s a rare unpredictable journey. The language and storytelling is tight and well constructed, with shifting POVs at once fierce and empathetic.
I am really sorry that I already finished the book. With hopes that the series continues, my thanks to Alaina Urquhart for continually following the courage of her convictions.
Anyways, this book picks back up where we left off from Book 1 (The Butcher And The Wren). Wren is on the trail of the serial killer, Jeremy Rose. His hunting grounds may have changed to Massachusetts but his tactic has not and Wren and her partner, Detective John, are determined to get him this time and put an end to his killings.
I can’t wait to read the next edition in this series!
I flew through book one in a night, but the small/short sentence structure makes this a rough and choppy read for me. Maybe its just me?
Keep it wierd, but no so weird Each sentence is five words long and it takes six of them to complete the imagery. Unless you're Alaina, you get this one free pass.
Oh my gosh! I just heard a noise outside! All the windows are closed, because open windows are for dead people! Nope. Not sleeping tonight. The books need to come with a doctors excuse to miss work ????
Hooked, completely and utterly. Never expected half the twists and turns!!! Finally received "The Butcher" on Sept 17, my birthday, happy birthday to me! I spent the day, exactly as I had hoped - curled in my chair, coffee at hand, reading. MORE Twists and turns, as well as being totally tipped upside down and shaken up - and then it ended!!! Far too soon. Book 3...... Yes? Book 3?? I hope??? Love Alaina's style of writing, with serious consideration to proper use of intelligent vocabulary. Not forced or faked, perfect. Again, OMGosh - Great book! Good Job, Alaina!!!
