This is our third and final Range Hood (knocking on wood) we have purchased and / or returned. The first two were Awoco RH-C06-30's. The first one worked fine, but the top had roll marks that were extremely obvious, very dirty, scratches and loud. The second, was worse, so we just opted to return them both and purchase this one.
As for the install: First, if this is a new install, then super easy. But as others have said, it is heavy. I did my Awoco by myself, no problem. This one, I had my wife and 15 year old daughter help me with it. It was difficult because I had modified my above stove cabinet from a builder grade 'Crapola' Broan recirculating trash, to the up and out of the roof Awoco Range Hood. Both the Awoco and this one have 6" vents, but let me tell you, 6" is 'debatable'. :)
The 6" vent top in the Awoco was over an inch closer to the wall then this one is. So now lets talk about the templet that they provide from Vesta: NO. I tried it, I really tried it, but it was a no go. It really did nothing but complicate the install. Its best to just have someone hold it up, put a two screws into it and then finish it. Speaking of screws. No way would I use the ones provided in the kit. I used some socket flange heads I had with washers and they worked great.
As for the electrical cord, if you are going to hard wire or not, it's easier to wire it after it is mounted. Just make sure you have the hold drilled properly. I ordered a short 3 prong extension from Amazon for about $5 and passed it thru the top, into the main cavity and wired it then. I also wrapped the wiring nuts with electrical tape and neatly tucked it away.
The lights work great, but why they used halogen instead of led, I will never figure out. But that is the great thing about the unit (and one of my requirements). You can easily swap the light bulbs for what ever you want.
The electronics are fantastic, and the touch screen works very well. I don't think the LED's are to bright or to dim. Thus perfect. Long term? Time will tell.
The 6 levels are fantastic, and honestly, don't see us using over 3, but nice to have that option. Though there is a difference between level 5 and 6, it isn't very much. Is this actually 860 CFM? IDK and don't care. It works for us.
Can I recommend this? Heck yes I can, especially at the sale price of $370 ($70 coupon). If you shop around for range hoods, you will start to realize that many are exactly the same, but with different names and prices. This holds true between this and the Hauslane | Chef Series 30" PS18 unit. But it is far more expensive.
Time will tell and I will update this as time progresses. I 100% so far recommend this Range Hood!
8 Month Update:
Still going strong and just as it was when I mounted it. This unit and its strength has saved my @ss twice now. I telework, and have at times forgotten that I had something on the stove top. Bad move. Even with this unit on 1 or 2, it cleared a grease fire and burning boiled eggs in no time! I have a single story, 2700 square foot home, and it cycled the air very quickly. If it hadn't been for this unit, I have no doubt we would have had smoke damage. THANK YOU and I still HIGHLY recommend it!
