5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy but gets the job done.

I have multiple DeWalt 20v cordless tool and batteries and have for the most part been very happy with them, so I decided to but their pole saw when I needed one. It is simple to assemble and operate, and with the center pole attachment has good reach. It has also had surprisingly good power and cutting ability. I used it to take down most of the dead Hawthorne tree beside my driveway with no problem on the dead dry wood. Soon after I found one of my neighbors trees had grown over to the point it was damaging my roof and being careful(and experienced) I was able to trim it back off the house to a point it will take a long to be a problem again. After both those projects and others the 5Ah battery still had plenty of charge. There is a downside though, first when the saw is fully assembled the pole is fairly wobbly, but I have read that is common with electric pole saws. The other less than ideal thing with this saw is the weight. I have developed serious health issues this year, and they have left me very weak, with a loss of 60 % of my diaphragm usage and therefore 60% of my lung capacity, and partial paralysis in both arms so the weight is a serious issue, but by pre-planning and improvising supports I have been able to use it fine, and it does work well. The batteries last surprisingly long, and if you have the chain spinning before contacting the wood to be cut, it never bogs down or stalls...at least that is how mine is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great pole saw but gets heavy after a while

This is a nice pole saw with plenty of reach. There's no issue if you have only a few branches to trim. Seems pretty light to start but gets heavy fast. As others stated, it's best to get the blade spinning before placing on the branch. I bought the bare tool because I have plenty of batteries. You should probably use a min 4ah battery for this saw but it would probably work fine with the smaller batteries for just a few branches.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this pole saw

I don't often review items, but this pole saw is one of the best investments I've made in a long time. I am 71 and own a big spread in Montana that is forested with second growth Ponderosa Pine trees. They tend to have limbs that die off on the lower trunk as they grow. You can cut the lower ones with a regular chain saw but then there are still many above your reach. The gas-powered pole saws are expensive and heavy. This item is light weight and uses lithium-ion Dewalt batteries I already have for other power tools. It is light weight. easy to operate, and very effective. It is quiet and there is no fuss with fuel. Just add bar oil and pull the trigger. There is some bar oil leakage in the bed of my pickup unless it is stowed in an upright position. I recommend Dewalt bar oil and spare saw blade chains

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tool. Gets a Little Wobbly at Full Length

A very nice tool that has a reasonable balance of rigidity and weight.

Pros:
- The chain is a thinner kerf and came well sharpened. It threw nice strips and chips.
- Uses my 60v 9Ah FlexVolt battery quite nicely.
- One battery charge stripped 1" to 4" diameter dead limbs from ground level up to 8 feet height off of 12 pine trees and still left me with 1 light on the 9Ah battery. I'd say that was around 200 cuts.
- The metal hook really does work nicely for pulling down branches.

Cons:
- As with most chainsaws, it seems, the oiler started leaking a lot when it sat.
- The first extension is rather rigid; however, with both extensions, the pole gets rather wobbly and flexy. It's manageable and safe, but just requires extra care and focus.

Absolutely worth the money. Good quality tool that really speeds up chores.

Chain Sharpening Angles and Notes:

The original chain appears to require the same sharpening specs as Dewalt's other thin-kerf saw chains:

4.5mm (.177") file, which is very close to 5/16 or 11/32.
30° angle on the cutter side plate.
If using a saw chain bench grinder, a 3/16" wheel worked nicely. A 5/16" wheel seemed just a bit too big. Also use a 65° head angle for the cutter top plate angle.

I live on 28 acres, mostly wooded, in Texas. I am always trimming tree branches, clearing fence lines of branches, or removing low-hanging branches so the tractor can get under them.
I cleared a dozen trees and cut up several 6-7" thick fallen oak branches, after several hours of cutting. I was still at 2 bars of battery. a few tips. 1) start the saw before you put it on the wood, this applies to chainsaws in real life as well. 2) the bar oil can leak this is normal and i just store it in a hanging rack and so far no leaks, we will see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise

Amazing power tools I am pleased and very surprised. I found the saw easy to use and much more convenient than gas I read all the reviews and I know people at issues with the extension. I had the same issues with the extension. It was a bit awkward while kind of dangling in mid-air while you holding the saw in your hand. The tool requires oil which is no surprise and I'm sure necessary and cuts really well. Smooth cuts every now and then you get a little jam but you usually get out of it. The only thing I found in the con department was the extension but that's to be expected. I prefer to get a ladder to cover some of those distances there was a lot to get done but I broke it up into 4 days of cutting. Trying to get ahead of the weather before anything springs up and a job multiplies exponentially. I found the battery life really good as well I got about 30 minutes out of each battery cleaned the tool after each use, it was easy to clean, easy to dismantle and reassemble. At some point the saw stopped working and I contacted the seller and they were more than happy to just replace it. No shipping cost. I'm very pleased with the outcome

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great

I purchased a Dewalt pole saw primarily for 2 reasons. First I have replaced all my corded tools with 20v Dewalts and I have been impressed with the quality of the Dewalt tools. Secondly, being able to use the same batteries for all my tools makes it so easy. Purchasing 2ah for light duty tools, 5 ah for most power tools and 9 ah for extra power needed, this gave me the flexibility that I needed. I purchased this pole saw and was not disappointed as expected as it worked great.
