5.0 out of 5 stars Nice clock with some useful features
Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2024
I have some kind of issue with blue displays where I can barely make them out. Local gas stations display E85 prices on their signs in blue and I can't read it unless I'm nearly directly under it. As for red displays, I simply don't prefer them. The white option is what I wanted because white and green are the colors I can see the clearest, even with my glasses off.

It has a useful feature in its dual alarms. I work exclusively PM shifts but the exact job duty for that day changes the start time, so I'm either going in at 1 PM or 2 PM. Dual alarms means I can set the alarms to 11 AM and 12 PM once and then never have to tinker with it again.

It also has a "DST" feature that automatically pushes the time ahead or back by one hour. I don't recall seeing this advertised, but it is extremely useful on a device that only allows incrementing the hour or minute with one button. The 24 hour format is useful to me as well, since I work in a hospital and times are always communicated in this format. I would have preferred "zero padded" hours, e.g. "0700" instead of "700", but it is still a welcome feature.

This alarm clock also triggers alarms when it is not receiving power from the outlet, such as during a power outage, if batteries are loaded into it. The display will not light up but it will still set off alarms. I set an alarm for a few minutes in the future and unplugged the clock, and it still rang the alarm on time.

The phone charger on the back likely only puts out what the included USB wall adapter provides, which is 5 volt 2 amp, or 10 watts. I can't be 100% sure because modern smartphones like to use vague terminologies instead of providing an actual number, and my Samsung does not indicate what the charging wattage is that it is receiving. I do know that it would take 30 minutes to charge 10% on the 5000 mAh battery. Sufficient for an overnight trickle charge, certainly not high wattage fast charging.

The only problem I've had with it so far is that changing the alarm volume either turns on alarm 1 or erroneously lights up that indicator on the display. I then have to push the alarm 1 button, hit snooze to confirm turning it on, then push the cancel alarm button to make the indicator turn off again. I also have a minor gripe with the little stabilizing feet that go on the back, since there is no indication of how they are meant to be oriented. The part that connects to the clock is off center and you just have to spin the little feet around until it looks right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed
Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2024
I got this to replace my bedside digital clock which died. The feature I like most about this is the ability to dim the brightness of the display. My old clock could be a little bright, but I turn down the brightness on this clock and it’s still readable but doesn’t light up the room. The display is big, which is another plus. The battery backup is a pair of AAA batteries – which are far cheaper to use than the 9V battery my old clock had. I am not using the alarm feature on this clock, so I cannot speak to that functionality. But for what I need, this clock fits the bill at a decent price point.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alarm does work off battery, does not show time on battery backup, very bright, and loud
Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2024
The alarm does work when on battery backup, but it does not show the time. I'm guessing that's the question most people will have so just wanted to clarify that. It says so in the description and I tested by setting an alarm a few minutes in the future, then unplugging it. The clock display turned off, but the alarm did go off on time.

If you need a clock without an outlet, you'll have to find one that is only battery operated as there doesn't seem to be any hybrids or ones with rechargable batteries, at least in the $10-$20 range. If you just want a reliable alarm this one should work and is quite loud. The biggest downside for me is the very bright display even on the lowest dim setting (not an issue if you use a sleep mask), and potentially accidentally turning off the alarm or 2nd alarm when hitting buttons upon waking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can see it from the moon

This is as simple clock with BIG illuminated numbers. Bought this for my 84 year old mom so she could tell what time it is in the middle of the night. It also lights up the room a bit so she can see. If you don’t like light in your room at night, don’t buy this :) It was inexpensive and an it’s a good product. Would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Basic Alarm Clock

I previously had a radio/alarm clock with battery backup where the battery backup stopped working. We have frequent power interruptions, so I wanted an alarm with battery backup. I don't ever use the radio feature, so one with just alarm was sufficient. And I like having two alarm settings. This clock fit the bill at a reasonable price, and other reviews seemed good. I like that all the routinely used time and alarm controls are easily accessible on the top. Some other alarm clocks have these settings on the back, which is inconvenient. The clock and alarm times are easy to set, and controls are obvious and intuitive. The "Dimmer" button allows you to easily adjust the brightness of the display. When Alarm 1 and/or 2 is set, little images appear on the left side of the screen showing they are on. Pressing the "Alarm Off" button turns these off (press once if only one alarm is set, press again if both are set). To set the alarms, press the one you want to set (Alarm 1 or Alarm 2), and the display will start flashing. Use the hour and minute buttons to set. Once set, the time will continue to flash for a few seconds then hold at what you set. Or you can press the alarm button again or the "Snooze/OK" button to stop the flashing and register your setting. You can adjust the alarm volume with the Volume +/- buttons on the left side of the clock. A tone is sounded each time you press so you can hear the volume. When the alarm goes off, pressing the Snooze button will give you an extra 9 minutes until it goes off again. Or you can press the "Alarm Pause" or "Alarm Off" button. "Alarm Pause" turns off the particular alarm (1 or 2) for 24 hours so it won't beep again until the next day. "Alarm Off" turns it off so it won’t beep again until you turn it back on. Once you set times for the Alarm 1 and Alarm 2, these times are retained each time you turn them off and back on, unless you change them. (This seems obvious, but I mention it only because one review I read seemed to indicate this might not be the case.) You can tell if Alarm 1 and/or 2 is set to go off by whether the small icons on the left side of the screen are showing. If an alarm is off, just press the Alarm 1 and/or 2 button to turn back on. The icon will then display on the screen.

There is a button on the right side of the clock to toggle modes between either 12 hour (AM/PM) or 24 hour (e.g., military time). Also, if you hold this button in for about 3 seconds, it will add an hour to the current time and display a little "DST" (daylight savings time) symbol on the right side of the face (i.e., "Spring forward"). Pressing it again for about 3 seconds will subtract an hour and remove the DST symbol (i.e., "Fall back"). This saves having to re-set the time twice a year. All very logical and intuitive.

One other thing to mention. Several unboxing videos by some reviewers seem to wonder what the two little black square pieces are that are packaged with the clock. I'm not sure why this seems confusing. These are obviously feet. They each have a little post on them, and there are a couple of holes in the back of the clock to insert them. These are easy to insert and fit snugly. They provide a little more width to the base to make the clock more stable, so it won't tip over when you go to hit the Snooze or Alarm Pause or Off buttons.

The only slight negative observation I have is that the display can be a little glary and washed out in bright sunlight when viewed from across the room. Making the display brighter helps, but then it is too bright if you wake up and look at the time during the night. As a result, I tend to set the display brightness towards one of the middle settings. This is obviously a personal preference that will vary. All-in-all, this is a nice little alarm clock with big numbers that are easy to read without glasses at a very reasonable/inexpensive price.
