5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing value at the original price

This collection consists of actual comic books that have been individually scanned and converted to PDF files. This is one of a number of such collections, all of which were an absolutely amazing value when they were first published, with hundreds of comic books, some dating back to the 1960s, available on a single DVD for one low price. Unfortunately, Marvel Comics refused to continue licensing their content to Git Corp and the collections are no longer available. Today, the DVDs are collector's items, sometimes going for hundreds of dollars. At their original publishing price, this was an incredible deal. At the prices today, when you can even find them, you should definitely think twice.

The files are not DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected, so you can copy the PDF files to your computer or laptop, even to your Kindle Fire tablet. You can also create backup DVDs to make sure that your collection always remains accessible. If you view the collections on your computer or laptop, using the Adobe official PDF viewer, everything is fine. If you view the collections on your Kindle Fire tablet, there is a semi-transparent "Marvel" watermark that will show up on every page. I've tried every PDF viewer in the Amazon App Store, including the Adobe PDF app, and they all exhibit this flaw. Once I got used to it, though, it didn't bother me much and it's handy to have a really portable way to read these files.

Each file contains one complete comic book, including the front and back covers, all of the advertisements, the letters page, and so on. The files are arranged in two-page spreads, 1100 pixels wide by 850 pixels high. I can reduce these to roughly 75% of full size and still read them. Much below that and the text becomes hard to read and the details are muddy.

For the collections that go back to the 60s and 70s, it's both nostalgic and hilarious to read some of the advertisements (Sea Monkeys! X-Ray Specs! Charles Atlas!). The scan quality in those earlier issues is surprisingly good, considering the age of each comic book. These are very readable, in very good condition.

This collection begins with issue #1 in 1962. The original count stops in 1999 with issue #474. In 1999, Marvel rebooted the franchise and the collection concludes with issue 99 of the reboot in 2006. In addition, the collection contains Annuals 1 through 20, Annuals 1997 through 2001, and a detailed bio of the Hulk and Banner. All told, counting index files, there are 598 files to browse.

I am very please with this product, because it brings back old memorys from my younger years. It's good to be able to see again the progress of the Hulk and all his old Enemies through out the years.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but beware...

I was really looking forward to this, and I'm mostly happy, but a little let down. Sure, it's got every issue, but the quality was not what I expected. Unlike the beautiful, cleaned up, color-corrected pages of the Masterworks collections, this disc is basically hand-scanned pages from actual comic books. There are yellowing pages, damaged pages, countless crooked pages, glare on recent issues and often the black levels could be better. Most annoying is that solid colors on older issues have that newsprint pattern you get whenever you try to scan a newspaper, so it's not even a good representation of what the original books look like in hand. I guess this is the price of getting all the old ads and letters pages, but it would've been nice to know that's what was contained.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!

This is every issue of Incredible Hulk (plus the complete 1960's run of Tales to Astonish featuring the character) on a single DVD-ROM. They are quality scans of the original comic books, so you get to see all the ads, house promos, and letter pages. (There are a few minor imperfections here and there; it looks like somebody took a crayon to some panels of "Titan Rides a Train" for example). The stories are great, of course. I am especially a fan of the Herb Trimpe/John Severin artwork in the early 70's. This is especially recommended, as are the other Marvel DVD releases by the publisher. The low price is staggering.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trick: How to Make These "Readable"
Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2009
Here's one way to customize your PDF browser so you can actually read these things. Using Adobe Reader 8. Even if you just do steps 1,2 and 5 it can really help.

1. Go to VIEW>Reading Mode
2. Go to VIEW>TOOLBARS>Hide Toolbars
3. Go to EDIT>Preferences
-Under Full Screen Setup uncheck "Fill Screen With One Page at a Time" and unceck "Current Document only"
-Under Full Screen Navigation uncheck "Left click to go forward one page; right click to go back one page" and CHECK "Show Navigation Bar"
4. Click OK
5. Go to VIE>ZOOM>Zoom Too...
6. Zooom to 150% and continue to increase your zoom untill one page fills your screen. Mine is at 190% all monitors are different.
7. Go to Full Screen Mode
>>>Finished

In Full Screen Mode you can now easily pan threw the comic one page at a time using your mouse and turn the pages using your Navigation Bar. a transition can be added to make it appear as though the pages were really turning. try it. and goodluck

Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2007
This product is very good. I t arrived qucikly. It contains the entire series of hulk upto deemberc of 2006. You can change the size of the comics and easily access all of them throud menues. My only problem is the isc arived with circular scratches all around the disc. it was still playable but the disc read slowly and sometimes failed because of this so I backup the disc onto the hard drive and it works fine there. Order it, but back it up onto your hard drive for spead and reliability. You can also print these comic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea.

I love the idea of comics being put on disc. I've always wanted the series from issue 1 but never thought it would be possible since the cost was way out of my reach. Getting to read the comics from the start of the series is awesome. The images came out great on disc. The first issue was a little faded, but after that, the rest had great quality. I never had any problems with images coming out on my laptop. Nuff said.
