5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent energy efficiency, operation

The Vellgoo 3200 sq. ft. dehumdifier is a very well designed and constructed product. This is the fourth dehumidifier purchased over the past 35 years. We’ve owned a different brand each time: some better, some worse. One lasted 15 years, one lasted 3 years. I expect this one to last quite a while.

We purhcased this Vellgoo model because of its EnergyStar Most Efficient rating, its Consumer Reports expected reliability rating, and other owner reviews found on Amazon indicating its excellent customer service in handling malfunctioning or failing units (which also seem to be rare). We are very pleased with our purchase. Here’s why.

The Vellgoo is the quietest dehumdifier we’ve ever owned. It is set up in a 144 sq. ft. storage room within a damp 750 sq. ft. basement, with two large closets. The storage room door generally remains open to allow for dehumidification of the larger basement space. We also occasionally leave the closet doors ajar for the same reason.

All dehumdiifers must dispose of the water pulled out of the air. One could simply empty the self-contained bucket, but I don’t consider that a viable option with this particular dehumidifier model. Compared to other dehumdifiers we’ve owned, this bucket is incredibly small to make that a viable option. In my experience, I’d be emptying the bucket several times/day.

Instead, we connected the included clear flexible tubing (referred to as a “hose” in description) to an existing condensate pump. (Condensate pumps automatically activate a pump to remove liquid up and out to a higher level drain. Alternatively, that tube can be directed to a floor drain, if you have one. We do not.) The dehumidifier’s design allows one to simply slip the tube through an opening on one side and onto a fitting. It sealed perfectly without leaking and took just a minute to install. Not having to empty the bucket daily (or more frequently) is a tremendous advantage for any dehumidifier. If you are unable to use a floor drain or a condensate pump, I would not recommend this particular model for this reason. Having said that, it is the only limitation I found in this model.

During this hot and humid June, the Vellgoo quickly brought the humidity from 65% down to a consistent 45% in both the storage room and the larger basement overall. (I measured relative humdity in different areas with a separate digital humidistat.) It drains flawlessly into our condensate pump without leaks or drips.

Occasionally, the dehumidifer goes into a self-defrosting cycle to remove ice buildup; that cycle is visually indicated by a code on the digital display. When defrosting, it exhausts cools air; when dehumidifying, it exhausts warm air. Self-defrosting is a major improvement from other dehumidifiers I’ve owned, which continually try to dehumidify, even though the coils and cooling fins are literally caked with ice. When I’ve noticed ice buildup on other units, I’d shut it off and simply wait a day or two for the ice to melt away. Inefficient to say the least. Continual operation with ice buildup is a likely cause of eventual failure of those units. Whatever dehumidifier you purchase, I highly recommend the “self-defrosting” feature.

Overall, I believe that the exhuast heat increases our basement temperature a bit, which is to be expected. It’s such a cool room, however, that a little exhaust heat is actually welcomed in our basement. Your situation may be different, of course.

The only negative I’ve encountered after several weeks of use is the digital display; it is quite dim requiring me to stoop a bit to check it closely, but this is a minor inconvenience. I don’t really need to check the display very frequently.

As others have noted, it comes with a 1 year warranty. If you register your purchase online with Vellgoo, they add a free additional year to the warranty. That’s a plus, as any sophsiticated appliance may occasionally fail before its time. Should that happen, I’m fairly confident that Vellgoo would make good on it. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with this appliance purchase, and highly recommend this Vellgoo model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Quiet, Easy to Empty, Doesn't Freeze Up!
Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2024
After many other dehumidifiers have failed our test, this one has finally passed, and we love it!! I will probably never buy another brand, because this has won me over after so many others disappointed me by freezing up or not working well. Here is why I love it:

* Never Freezes Up - We have cats, so we seem to have a constant issue with dehumidifiers freezing up when a little bit of cat hair is in the air. This one just powers through, which means that the filter on it actually works, and it has yet to freeze up after constant operation for weeks.
* SO Quiet - As aforementioned, sometimes I actually forget to empty the drip pan, because it is by far the quietest dehumidifier I've ever had, and I don't always notice when it shuts off because of a full drip pan. A great problem to have, though!
* Slim Profile - this is a lot smaller than other dehumidifiers that I've tried, so it fits better in the space that we have for it. I didn't buy it for that reason, but it was an unexpected benefit, and I like that about it.
* Super Fast and Efficient - The drip pan is usually full after less than a day, so I know it's working.
* Accurate Readings - I've got a separate humidity monitor that I keep in the same room with the dehumidifier, and according to that independent source, the readings of the humidity levels on the dehumidifier are accurate.

I love this so much, and I'll order this brand again someday when this one kicks the bucket. I highly recommend it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy start-up, easy drain system!

I read several reviews before purchasing this dehumidified. One mentioned difficulty figuring out how to attach the drain hose, commenting on a lack of instruction. I'm glad to report that the instructions in the current manual are now included. They are clear, easy to follow. It took 30 seconds to connect the drain and another two minutes to find a place in our basement to route the included drain tube into. The unit arrived carefully packed, but delivered on its side despite the clear instructions to "keep upright". After removing the dehumidifier from its packaging we let it sit upright for 24 hours, as instructed, before plugging it in. I ran the unit for two days before connecting the drain hose this morning. The dehumidifier filled the bucket on both days! So far, we are really pleased with this unit.

One small negative experience -- I was slightly confused on how the cap provided with the bucket fits on the bucket. After several attempts where I found the bucket with cap sitting on it incorrectly wouldn't fit back into its space provided for it, I now know there is only one way the cap fits on the bucket. from appearances I assumed in error that what I mistook as the top side was really the side that has to face the inside of the bucket. I just was slow in figuring it out! If I'd paid attention to how it fit the first time I took the cap off to empty the bucket, there would have been no wasted time. Despite this minor issue, the unit seems a great replacement for an older unit that recently failed.
