5.0 out of 5 stars You'll recoup the cost of this book by making one less bad trade after reading John's book

I'm giving this book 5 stars even though I'm only on page 26 because if the remainder of the book is like the first section, it's going to earn my praise. If it doesn't, I'll come back and revise the stars awarded. I stopped here to offer this review because of something very personal included in his book: a letter from his wife explaining what she had to go through during the 15 years she had to endure on John's journey. It's something every trader's partner should read. I've never encountered this before, but I feel it shows the transparency John is affording his reader about his life as a trader. I've traded stocks for a decade and just began trading options and wanted to quickly get beyond the beginner level. Risk management is key and believe me when I say you can become poor very quickly trading options. John does a good job explaining risk management. Ignore this and you'll die very, very quickly. No cash...game over. Just because you're a good stock picker doesn't necessarily translate to options. This should not be the book if you don't know the difference between a call or put, but I can already feel this is one of the most important books I'll ever read on the necessary mind set needed to become a full-time trader. If you're not serious, you won't spend the money on this book. But I can tell you it'll be money well spent, just to hear John's wife tell you that success can be yours if you're willing to devote 10 years to the process. No joke. It's taken 10 years to become a good stock picker, and I guess it'll take another 10 years to master option trading. Oh well, I have no where I have to be. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Actual Trading Methods, Tangible Trading Advice, Good Story
Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2019
Good mix of the trader's psychology, with some moderately entertaining biographical elements, and real trading strategies. There are lots of actual examples of each strategy (not fake ones) that were useful for me to get the exact idea right. Very helpful. The psychology is very accurately described as well. I feel like some people in this field publish books only as marketing material to get you to buy their service, but this is not at all one of those books.

That said, I traded with his group for a while and they are a great group and run a no-nonsense business. They share their full thoughts, exact trades in and out, and are unusually nice people! There is more promotion of every new seminar, etc for sale than I prefer, but I also understand that is their business. Anyway, the book is a pleasant read and very useful.

Good online supplementary videos as well.

However, I disagree with his suggestion that it's ok to trade options without knowing much about them. They are complex, highly leveraged trading instruments that can move fast due to factors you should understand.

John Carter knows what he is doing and this book is nothing short of amazing. It’s covers everything from a basic knowledge of investing to advanced options/strategies and also goes into indicators such as the Squeeze Pro, etc…. I’ve bought this book for friends to help advance their knowledge and they haven’t been disappointed. This books stays on my desk for a reason as I refer to it daily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Market internals!

I've being following John and the rest of team at Simpler Trading for a while now (2 years exactly) and I couldn't be more pleased on how simple their methodology is. From simply understanding their mechanics when it comes to options trading and comprehension, to reading the market internals first thing in the morning, to placing and exiting a trade in a timely manner. My goal is to meet the team one day and simply thank them for all that they all do on a daily basis to the masses of retail traders like myself. I would highly recommend John's book Mastering the Trade as he shares timeless information that truly is worth every penny for any beginner, intermediate and advanced traders. Market internals are truly an eye popper! And to Simpler Trading, keep up the good work!

After 50 pages, I was captivated by the stories and more importantly, the author provides a framework for the later information. This is the way men (especially Sigmas) learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book rings true.

OK, everybody wants the secret, the shortcut. Turns out, there is no shortcut to successful trading. The trick is to survive until you learn the skills and Carter tells you how. I especially appreciate his admission that things were rough for him at the beginning. And I thought it was just me. If you scan the book just for his techniques and indicators, you will miss the most valuable thing he has to offer: the biggest obstacle to successful tradering is what happens between your ears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for anyone wanting to learn to trade.

John Carter has written a third edition for today's market conditions. I'd been trading for years when someone
recommended the first edition, which turned my trading around. This book is jam-packed with information that is
necessary to know but not mentioned by so many market gurus selling courses.
Strongly advise investing in this book as a way to shortcut the learning curve and prepare the trader for the game.
Immensely readable. I recommend this as a must-have for any trader's library and THE place to start for newbies,
along with Candlestick Charting Explained. After digestion, my next recommendation would be Jim Dalton's Markets in Profile - prepare to take notes.
