5.0 out of 5 stars Great for kids and adults

I wish I had a magnifying glass like this when I was a kid growing up! This pocket sized digital magnifying glass/microscope allows you to view objects up close, up to 500x magnification, in crisp detail on a 2" IPS color screen. Or on your PC/Mac screen when using computer mode. It's great for viewing insects, coins, stamps, rocks and minerals. The zoom is way more powerful than a smartphone in macro mode. This will come in very handy when I need to read tiny print clearly, like reading tiny serial numbers on the back of devices. There a 4 level of magnification available and the 8 LED lights provide up to 3 levels of illumination, allowing you to view objects even in dark conditions. Another nice feature is the built in storage for storing up to 100 photos. Photos stored on the onboard storage unfortunately cannot be transferred to a PC, tablet or smartphone. But there is a microSD slot which will allow you to take photos on a microSD card that can be transferred to other devices. The built in lithium rechargeable battery, charged via USB-C, give you up to 1.5 hours of viewing time on a single charge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful form factor for a digital microscope
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2024
I found the form factor of this digital microscope to be superior to the 'normal' shape of these microscopes (which is like a short cigar). This allows this microscope to have a built in screen which again is a great addition.

Now, like all of these small digital microscopes, you need to take the magnification factor claimed by the manufacturer with a ton of salt. Actual maximum magnification is 20X (not 500X as advertised). I verified this by viewing a ruler with marks 1mm apart and measuring the resulting image on the display. At the 1X gui setting the marks are 12mm apart (meaning an actual magnification of 12X) and at 4X gui setting the marks are 20mm apart (20X real magnification). This is still a decent magnification, but it is certainly not the 500X advertised.

The biggest drawback to this magnifier is the very short fixed focus distance of about 6mm (1/4 inch) from the camera lens. The design of this device works well for magnifying something that is flat (like a page of paper) because you can set the device on the page and the focus distance is correct, but it is more difficult to use for magnifying not flat objects (because you need to get the object right up close to the camera lens).

Overall I think this magnifier is a nice addition to my collection and I expect I will be using it frequently to try help with reading the very small markings that one often finds on ICs and PCBs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most usable handheld microscope I have ever tried - excellent image quality
Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2024
This handheld magnifier/microscope is an incredible piece of technology. It's easy to use, and you don't get the kind of shake you get with other handheld microscopes with this magnification. It has some onboard photo storage capability, and allows live connecting through a computer (which I haven't used yet). It's very lightweight and easy to hold.

The image quality is incredible. The photos I've attached are photos I took with my phone of the screen. The first photo is of the date on a penny. The others are an assortment of 100% cotton and 100% polyester fabrics, and one potential blend. You can definitely tell the difference between the 100% fabrics. I'm hoping to develop an ability to spot mislabeled blends. You can really see the fine features of coins such as the edges and mint marks.

Probably the only improvements I'd want for another version of this is the ability to download photos by wifi to phone, or a photo button easier to use without shaking the microscope, maybe even a short timer that allows you to press the shutter then hold still to get the best image. That said, this is so usable compared to all other handheld microscopes I've ever used, it deserves 5 stars and then some as it is. What a fun, useful thing for everyone from little kids to adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, inexpensive, and really useful.
Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2024
I've reviewed lots of microscopes and digital microscopes and toy microscopes, and often find them lacking in some significant way or other. I'm not entirely sure why, but I find this one very appealing. It does have drawbacks, but they don't keep it from being nifty and useful. Its buttons take some getting used to (they're hidden, and it's easy to take a photo instead of increasing/decreasing the zoom), but that's too small a quibble to affect the score. This device has a good form factor. It doesn't try to look like a mini microscope, which can lead to bulkiness. I can stick it in my pocket easily. It can serve as an optical magnifying glass as well as a digital one. The digital zoom is decent, and the image it shows is clear, well-lit, and, frankly, rather impressive. The flat profile makes it very easy to use. Lay it on a surface and you're at the right distance. If you're trying to use focus on an object or protrusion, a little more playing around is needed, though. I personally think it's very good as an augmented magnifying glass --- as well as for kids. If that's what you want, I recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars I carry this in my purse
Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2024
✅The recharging circuitry seems to be compatible with both regular and fast charging adapters; which means you can use your existing USB C phone charger with it. Note: By "fast charger compatible," it DOES NOT mean the magnifier will "fast charge." It simply means the magnifier will accept being connected to a fast charger.

⚠️The viewscreen has a protective film, that you must remove. However, the "pull tab" is NOT part of the protective film, and is not strong enough to remove the film. Place a piece of packing tape across the protective film and yank it away.

❌The non-digital biconvex lens is approximately 5x. However, the radius of curvature only leaves a small usable portion in the center of the lens.

❌The focal length of the digital camera is very short. You must be able to position object(s) being examined, at the same distance as the "ring" that supports the unit, when you set it down. It would be nice if the focal length was adjustable.

⚠️The brightness of the LED are not adjustable. You may not see "true colors," when viewing some objects.

The quality and value proposition are "good."

I am rating this at 4 stars; because an adjustable focal length is at the top of my "wish list."
