5.0 out of 5 stars I loved everything about The Deal by Elle Kennedy!

I have been a huge fan of Elle Kennedy’s writing for years. I loved her Out of Uniform series and Killer Instincts series. Her After Hours series is sizzling hot. She has a way of bringing her characters to life and making them demand your absolute attention. Her books have a combination of witty dialogue, dynamic characters, a well developed plot, and pacing that keeps the reader enthralled. Most of her books have either been erotic romance or romantic suspense. I was wondering how she would pull off a New Adult romance. New Adult romance is a generalized genre that can contain sweet & sexy, dark & intense, angsty & anxious, or exciting & erotic. The Deal has all of these elements and more. It is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining New Adult romances that I have read. I connected with the main characters as well as the secondary characters. They were all larger than life in their own way. The one thing that stood out besides the main characters romance was Elle’s portrayal of college life. She portrayed a very realistic look at life on the college campus and how it relates to their courses as well as social life.

Garrett Graham is the bad boy of the college hockey team. He makes panties melt and owns his man whore reputation with relish. He has an overinflated ego that matches his cocky attitude. He is a star player and lives for playing hockey. He is diligent with his grades, practices, and performance. When he fails his philosophy mid term, it could not only ruin his GPA, it will affect his position on the team. He could lose the one thing he lives for. He is going to have to retake his philosophy mid term and ace it in order to remain on the team. He needs help. Who better to help him than one of the few students that managed not only to pass the mid term but ace it. He never really noticed Hannah Wells before until she accidentally dropped her exam and he saw her A. Now he is on a mission to get Hannah to tutor him. He will try to bribe her, entice her, and woo her. When he discovers the golden carrot that will make her give in, he will dangle it in every way he can. His life is counting on that golden carrot.

Hannah Wells is a music major. She is a pretty confident and outgoing girl with her friends and peers. She is smart, personable, and resilient. She is dedicated to her craft. The one area she lacks in is her confidence with the opposite sex. She has finally found a guy that she is interested in and she has no clue how to deal with her attraction. Not only is he out of her league, he is also the star quarterback on the football team. Not the type of guy she would normally take an in interest in. She has had some very bad experiences with the opposite sex. Although she has mostly overcome her issues, she is still a bit leery and scared. If she can get past her fears, she may be able to approach him.

When the ego maniac sex god, Garrett Grant, approaches her to tutor him in philosophy, she thinks he is out of his ever loving mind. There is no way she is going to tutor the self absorbed jock. That is until he finds out her ultimate weakness and offers her a guaranteed solution. His persistence and golden carrot are enough to make her cave. It’s time to make a deal with the Devil.

Hannah and Garrett are in for some big surprises. They are both quite different than they appear on the surface. Hannah may have the upper hand when the tutoring begins but Garrett will quickly take control of the situation. Both will be in for a great learning experience. Both will come out winners in the end. Their Deal will seal both their fates.

I loved the banter between Garrett and Hannah. The snarky sarcasm, witty comebacks, and dirty talking are beyond clever and entertaining. The heated bedroom scenes make your temperature burn out of control. The emotional and intimate moments will have you swooning. What I loved best is how they formed a deep respect and friendship with one another. They were able to honestly confide in one another and know that their trust was not misplaced.

I loved everything about this book! Read The Deal by Elle Kennedy.

I am looking forward to the next book in the Off-Campus series. The Mistake will release in June of 2015. It is a complete mystery of who this book will feature or what their story is about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute college hockey romance

3.5 ⭐️ 3 ????️
I’ve been on a hockey romance kick and everyone recommends this book so highly. I definitely enjoyed it, but I can’t say it’s my favorite that I’ve read lately. The MMC is a great book boyfriend! There is all of the typical build up and also the manufactured drama that the couple overcomes, I just didn’t feel that magical element that would give this a 4 or 5 star rating. Still totally worth a read though! It also could be that I listened to this on audio and was not a fan of the female narrator though I really tried to separate that from my review.

TW: SA, drugging, emotional abuse, physical abuse

Garrett Graham is a rising hockey star very focused on his sport and future career in the NHL. When he fails a test and has the opportunity for a makeup, he seeks out the one girl who seems to have aced the first test to tutor him. He figures he can work his charm like always does and she’ll be eating out of the palm of his hand. Except Hannah Wells has zero interest in being one of Garrett’s little puck bunnies and his charm doesn’t work on her. But maybe there is something he can help her with… They strike a deal, Hannah will tutor Garrett in exchange for getting her crush’s attention.
As Hannah gets to know Garrett she realizes he’s not the dumb jock she thought he was. He’s smart, funny, and kind of sweet. Garrett realizes that hanging out with a girl for something other than a one night hookup can be kind of fun. The two grow closer and start to confide in each other. They both have dark pasts with baggage. Their attempt to get her crush’s attention utilized the old fake dating strategy, but it has to look real right? So they have to look comfortable kissing right? So they better practice, right? Their already present emotional connection turns out to be physically explosive as well.

“How did I go so long without noticing you, damn it? Why did it take seeing a stupid A on your midterm to make me notice.”

Hannah Wells is a junior at Briar College studying music. She’s working to overcome the tragedy that she experienced when she was just 15 years old. To the general population she appears to be happy, but underneath it all, she’s still struggling in many ways. She’s developed a crush, Justin Kohl, new to the university this year and a football player and he’s the first guy to have her heart racing and palms sweating in a very long time. The only issue, he doesn’t know that she exists. Justin and Hannah are in the same philosophical ethics class, a class that half of the students are failing miserably. Being one of the few that passed the midterm, Hannah’s shocked to say the least.

Garrett Graham, is also in Hannah’s ethics class, unfortunately he’s in the other half of this class, the one that’s failing. Garrett is on Briar’s hockey team, and they have very strict academic rules, when it comes to athletics. Fall below a C minus average in your classes, and no hockey, football, etc. For Garrett this is not an option, hockey is his life, and he’s damn good at it, it’s his future. He’s not a dumb jock, far from it actually, but this class is kicking his butt. When Garrett realizes that Hannah not only passed the midterm, but did exceptionally well, he decides she’s his ticket to a better grade on the make-up midterm that is if he can convince her to tutor him. One thing is for certain, she’s not going to give in easily.

“Unbelievable. Every girl at this college would cut her frickin’ arm off to help me out. But this one? Runs away like I just asked her to murder a cat so we could sacrifice it to Satan.”

Hannah has a preconceived notion of who Garrett is and she has no interest in being another notch on his bedpost, she’s far too busy to be tutoring a jock that has everything handed to him on a silver platter. When Garrett refuses to give up, and offers Hannah a deal that is simply too good to pass up, they agree on a mutually beneficial solution to both their problems. What neither of them could have ever expected, a growing attraction and actually enjoying spending time together. Both Garrett and Hannah have secrets, that no one else knows, and the more time they spend together, the more comfortable they become with each other. To make matters worse they’re attracted to one another.

“The second our lips meet, the strangest thing happens. Pulsing waves of heat unfurl inside me, starting at my mouth and then rippling down my body, tingling in the tips of my breasts before travelling even lower.”

The Deal is wonderful, and not because it’s the typical college romance. Garrett and Hannah are both dealing with more than anyone else knows, when they begin to trust each other, share their secrets, not only does the attraction intensify, but they begin to heal, neither of them are broken. Their relationship is touching, genuine, sexy and honest. This is my first Elle Kennedy novel, but before I was even finished this one, I had pre-ordered The Mistake, the next book in this series. I loved this book, from start to finish. I loved the writing, characters, story, humour, romance, passion all of it! The Deal is perfect, addictive, emotional, and unforgettable.

“Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don’t know how you ever lived without them.”
