About this item
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. Though there have been countless stories about me throughout my career and very public personal life, it’s been impossible to communicate the complexities and depths of my experience in any single magazine article or a 10-minute television interview. And even then, my words were filtered through someone else’s lens, largely satisfying someone else’s assignment to define me.
This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.
Writing this memoir was incredibly hard, humbling and healing. My sincere hope is that you are moved to a new understanding, not only about me, but also about the resilience of the human spirit.
Love,
Mariah

Like Jessica I made a point to buy every Mariah cd on release day including the super fun remix cd singles they used to release that would have multiple remixes of her current single. Im glad Mariah is doing the music she wants, but I have to admit I miss the upbeat/pop faster tracks.
Regarding the book I bought 2 one to read and one to store away as my collectible copy. I am enjoying the book but in my opinion it could have been so much better or even longer with more current events. Jessica Simpsons book was over 400 pages and she came along about 10 years after Mariah.
I adore and respect our girl Mariah so I'm not looking for dirt, name dropping or snide remarks.
But there seem to be gaps missing. There is not one mention of the film Wisegirls which I thought was pretty damn good. I recall Entertainment Tonight doing stories how Mariah and Mira Sorvino did not get along and allegedly came to blows and fought each other on the set. How did Mariah get the part, what are her thoughts? The same with Tennessee which gets a very brief mention. Precious got about 2 pages.
I would have loved to read more about Mariahs movie experience. There is a lot about Glitter, but in my opinion again that movie is no where near as bad as people try to make it. I actually just bought that on bluray since I had no idea they released it in HD.
There is enough info on her CDs , releasing and promotion, chart position and who she worked with. I just feel Jessica Simpsons book was so open and honest I blew through it in a weekend. Im still working on Mariahs book and truthfully find myself losing interest. And believe me I HATE to write or even admit it.
The best chapters dealt with Mariahs personal struggles during the Glitter era and how she found herself locked in a facility she couldn't leave. Im not bad mouthing or putting Mariah down I just wish it was more current. What happened to James Packard who I believe she was gonna marry. How are she and Tanaka doing? Are there more movies coming? A new CD? What did she think of "Mariahs World" her reality show? She never addressed the Eminem feud or her time as a judge on American Idol.
I get it and understand there are things she doesn't want to get into like her brother and sister and mother and she is certainly entitled to that but like I said info on the movies would have been interesting and I dint even think she went into the creation of Bianca (unless I just didn't get that far).
I feel this book could have been over 500 pages with a lot more info. Im still giving it 5 stars because its our one and only Mariah Carey who i adore.
PS my second copy I ordered from Amazon and almost had a stroke when they simply dropped the book in a plastic mailer with no bubble wrap or they didn't even use a box so I was expecting dented corners and bent up dust jacket, but to my surprise it came perfect. Anyway fellow lambs enjoy, I still love Mariah and will still be online whenever her next project comes out.
