5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Experience
Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2023
I was looking for a great laptop for homework and casual web browsing. One that is light and slim enough to put in my backpack or bag. After careful research, the Lenovo T480 sounded the best for my specifications. It has an internal and external battery. To replace the external battery, just pop it out of the slot and put the new one in without opening up the computer. The ram is upgradable. The keyboard can be replaced easily.
The laptop looked like new. I was expecting it to be worse since this is refurbished. That wasn't the case at all. For the price point, I am elated. An i7 with 16gb of ram for less than $400.
When I turned on the computer, a notification popped up that said, "Battery 2: The battery failed due to normal wear. The battery cannot be charged. Please replace the battery." I messaged the seller. They sent me a replacement battery for free. The battery the laptop came with is a 3-cell 24wh. The replacement battery I received was an extended 6-cell 48wh battery which is great for portability if there is not an outlet nearby.
My experience with the seller Regadget was overwhelmingly positive. If you do decide to buy this laptop, PLEASE contact the seller about any issues. In my case, they were great and helped to the best of their abilities. Then if you still aren't satisfied with the computer, return it.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT in "Refurbished - Excellent" condition; missing internal battery and failed external battery
Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2024
The T480 is the last of the Thinkpads that has Lenovo's Power Bridge, which is a combination of an internal 24 watt hour battery and an external, swappable battery. The supposedly "excellent - like new" T480 I received doesn't even have a recognizable internal battery (see image), and the external battery does not charge with any of the 65W Lenovo brand chargers that I tried on it. Lenovo Diagnostics confirmed the lack of an internal battery, and the external battery failed the diagnostic. Would not buy from Compound IT; I don't know how they seem to have only positive reviews, because this feels like a scam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good laptop for the price, but...
Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2023
This is a pretty decent laptop for the price, however the quality of the refurbishment is very poor. The first thing I noticed was the lower case cover had been repainted, yes, painted. With a black textured paint. There was grey primer over-spray inside the case as well as on the speakers. There was a large amount of sticky tape residue on the outside of the cover and around the case edge under the external battery. The paint used was coming off around the corners and chipping off the rubber feet pads. Wiping the cover with a microfiber cloth left black streaks on the cloth. I would gladly accept a few scratches and nicks on a used laptop then a poor attempt to cover them up. I had opened the laptop up to add another stick of RAM and replace the M.2 SSD for a bigger one. Several of the screw heads were rounded off and stripped out, one of which can be seen in the pictures. When I removed the drive adapter cage, the upper heat-sink cover was missing. Not the biggest deal, but not good to see missing parts. Lastly, the internal battery was opened! The cover was covered with tool marks and the internal circuits were exposed. There are reminents of a sticker on the battery that read "Capacity 100%". The battery is date coded 06 2017. Looks like someone opened up the battery to reset its internal capacity counter? Pretty shady way to make an old battery look new. On the other hand, the screen was in good condition with no dead pixels or blotches. Functionally all the ports and keyboard seem to work good. The performance is excellent and the 1080p screen looks great. Came with a cheap off brand 45 watt type C charger. While the charger works, it's a far cry from the 65 watt original chsrger. It's just disappointing to see something this badly refurbished as "excellent condition". 3/5 stars for missing parts, opened battery, stripped screws, chipping and smearing paint. A little more effort from the refurbisher would have gone a long way.

Update: I did get in contact with the seller about the internal battery issue. I explained the battery defiinetely was not in good shape as it would drain from 100% to 4% just letting the laptop sit and turned off for two days despite displaying only 1% wear through HW Monitor utility. We were able to come to a mutual agreement that I feel was fair for the cost to replace the internal battery. For the seller willing to make this right, I will give them 4/5 star rating. There is definetely some room for improvement in the refurbish, but I do not expect a used laptop to be perfect. Their effort to fix the big issue was apprecaited.

I thought when I opened the box I was see an obviously used device. The laptop is practically like new! For a ThinkPad in near new condition at such a low price is a great investment

Received on time.

Exactly as described.

Works well.

Wish I had the money to buy the one with the really great screen.

but I wish I had the money to buy a brand new computer, with more recent Intel Processor -generation as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally amazing laptop

EDIT 4 month later review update:
1/2 of the laptop batteries fails to connect or be recognized. This is the replaced non OEM battery which will not be recognized not matter the BIOS version. this means that the laptop can't survive more than an hour and a half on battery power.

Main CPU fan is failing, only works intermittently causing the laptop to freeze and crash constantly.

I've initiated the return.

the Lenovo T480 is a great laptop, but you are not purchasing a Lenovo T480, you are purchasing a used /refurbished t480. Amazon will sensor any review that doesn’t focus on the product itself. The problem is you are purchasing a used laptop so the reviews should allow discussing the condition of the item you receive. I will not discuss those things which are forbidden, but I will only suggest you double check the item against the description.
