Product description

DragonBox Algebra 12+ is a must-have tool for students so they can earn better grades and gain confidence in algebra and mathematics. It is based on the award winning game DragonBox Algebra 5+ but covers more advanced topics in mathematics and algebra:

* Parentheses
* Positive and Negative signs
* Addition of Fractions (Common Denominators)
* Collection of Like Terms
* Factorization
* Substitution

DragonBox Algebra 12+ gives players a greater understanding of what mathematics is all about: objects and the relationships between objects.

This educational game targets children from the ages of 12 to 17 but children (or adults) of all ages can enjoy it. Playing doesn’t require supervision, although parents can enjoy playing along with their children and maybe even freshen up their own math skills.

DragonBox Algebra 12+ introduces all these elements in a playful and colorful world appealing to all ages.

The player learns at his/her own pace by experimenting with rules that are introduced gradually. Progress is illustrated with the birth and growth of a dragon for each new chapter.

Dr. Patrick Marchal, Ph.D. in cognitive science, and Jean-Baptiste Huynh, a high school teacher, created DragonBox Algebra 12+ as an intuitive, interative and efficient way to learn algebra.

DragonBox Algebra 12+ is based on a novel pedagogical method developed in Norway that focuses on discovery and experimentation. Players receive instant feedback which differs from the traditional classroom setting where students can wait weeks for feedback. DragonBox Algebra 12+ creates an environment for kids where they can learn, enjoy and appreciate math.

Our previous educational game, DragonBox Algebra 5+ has received many distinctions including the Gold Medal of the 2012 Serious Play Award (USA), the Best Serious game at Bilbao´s Fun and Serious Game Festival and the Best Serious Game at the 2013 International Mobile Gaming Awards. It is also recommended by Common Sense Media where it won the Learn ON award.

Features
* 20 progressive chapters (10 learning, 10 training)
* 357 puzzles
* Basic algebraic rules with which the child can experiment
* A focus on minimal instruction encourages creativity and experimentation from the player
* Multiple profiles for easy progress control
* Dedicated graphics and music for each chapter
* Multiple supported languages (English, français, norsk, svenska, dansk, español, korean, italiano, português, Deutsch, russian, chinese traditional, chinese simplified, suomi, Nederlands...)

5.0 out of 5 stars greatest educational app i have ever seen .....

Most educational apps or games are just plain boring and you don't want to play with them but this game is totally different. The point of the game is you complete problems to grow your dragon once it is grown up you go to the next level and grow that dragon. At first I thought it was just a plain old game but really instead of you just completing problems by using shapes and dragons your actually learning algebra! It's no joke I have learned so much from this app. Me and my friends love to play it . It is awesome and really addicting! I really think it is a amazing app you should get it if you want to learn algebra!

Please put likes for this :)

Dragonbox is a great program for teaching kids to think algebraically and the help them master the skills, however, it does not *teach* algebra. It took my husband and I to explain how the game applied to the 'real math' for my son to really figure it out. As an aid to classroom teaching however, it is a fun and interesting program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well-designed teaching program disguised as a game

My first-grade son loves this game. He plays it often, and I see him incorporating the concepts into his school work.

Likes: This app does a great job of turning rote memorization of rules and their repetitive application into a game. Each level introduces a concept and builds on it. While the game does not teach the names of algebra theorems and axioms, it certainly helped him master them.

Frankly, I think kids would learn (and enjoy learning) more if subjects that require rote memorization and lots of practice were presented in this format.

I also suggest that you start with Dragon Box 5+.

Dislikes: Some of the 3-star solutions (particularly involving order of operations) are overly punctilious. This can cause some frustration when a problem is solved correctly though differently.

Price: This is the most expensive game I've purchased. This being said, the app still a good value because of its playability and that my son would never learn the concepts of algebra this easily and this enthusiastically from a book.

Overall, this is great app that fully deserves a 5-star rating.

Very addictive and fun educational game. Highly recommend! Students use their own reasoning to catch onto the rules as each new "power" is added. I really like how players can replay a level as many times as they wish in order to complete it, move on, or go back to another chapter or level. I didn't personally like the edgy look of the player choices but you only use them as a user symbol and don't see them during the game. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that students who would benefit from a reference section cannot go anywhere for info on how each power works. Once they are stuck their only option is to watch the game solve itself with no explanation. Instruction for those who want it would also make a nice bridge for them into their real algebra homework. This makes it particularly challenging if you play the game for a while and then put it down. By the time you return to the game you will have to go back a few levels to recall how each power works. Then again, I'm an adult and kids would probably remember better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super program!
Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2014
I purchased this for my two kids who are in pre-algebra. In one weekend, one of them completed 7 chapters and was raving about the program. A week later, the program was still holding her interest. A week after that, she commented that she could see how the DragonBox activities were the same as what she was doing in math class.

I've played the "game", too, just to see what it was about. This mom did four chapters in a weekend for fun!

The program includes a solution video for each game if you get stuck. It also notifies you if you solve the problem in fewer steps than usual. We've used the program on a Kindle Fire with no problems. The program progressed past chapter 6 beautifully. The bug what others mentioned is no longer present.

I'd put this one in a must-buy category. Bravo to the programmers!

3.0 out of 5 stars Crash Issues
Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2013
My son blew through the first game in a day and begged for more. I was so impressed that I didn't hesitate to pay the $9.99 for this app. I wish I had read reviews, because we are also now stuck in Chapter 6 with the same freeze-and-crash issues reported by others. Although I sent an inquiry via the developers' website, I found nothing in their FAQ or forums acknowledging this issue even exists. Kindle customers demand support!

1.0 out of 5 stars Where is my download?
Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2014
I just bought it, but there is no way to download it, that I can see. Can anyone help me with this. I have a Samsung Galaxie Android phone but Amazon doesn't even show my order in recent orders, when I look for it from the phone. It only shows when I look for it on the desktop PC. It's like there are 2 different Amazons.

4.0 out of 5 stars DragonBox Algebra 12+
Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2013
Introduces basic algebra concepts. I like the format and how each algebra concept is introduced and built upon. I recommend this to anyone who has a kid they would like to get a head-start on algebra, who is struggling or who wants to sharpen their skills. My kids love it! Adults intimidated by algebra will find it helpful. I gave five stars for the "gamification" of a crucial math concept. Of course to solve most algebra problems you will need to set up the right equations first. This does not teach that. It teaches what to do when the equations are set up correctly.
