my only gripe about this game is that it took 5 hours to download I would return this game downloading steam and getting an account took forever but I was happy as soon as I got it started it is visually better then the play station 1 always even the n64 was visually better then the play station 1 even though there is hd remix for x box and you can get this game for ps3 and x box 360 anyways it looks better on the laptop game play is the same you still olly grab kick flip and grind with the same buttons it has more goals for cash then the other games but still feels the same as the original I like it that's why I bought it after playing this game a little I found its missing certain tricks found in past games like transferring qp's sticker the wall and getting off the board I know it wasn't made when this game existed but certain goals need it and another pet peeve I have with this game is it needs to update each time you start it even when theres nothing to update I guse it makes sure there's internet so when there is no wifi you cant play the game so if your stuck in your grand mothers house or a hotel with no internet or your parents can't pay for wifi any more for whatever reason no wifi you can not play your game this game tony hawks pro skater

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Hawk is a god

Having been blessed with the ability to play Tony Hawk Pro Skater at an early age, since TH1 (but on 64 not on dreamcast), and then playing many ones before stopping at Project 8 (I could not bear to see my hawk die in such HD at an early time of my gaming career with blood and broken bones and all that); it was tear-inducing to see that they released a PC version basically for free for the true fans of the Hawk Series. I doubt they made a profit for the value of art they put in, in putting the game up to standards that I will reinstall to enjoy now, at the end of 2018, but in 2012, it's like: Wow.
I just wanna thank Activision for this game since Nintendo 64 and for all the memories I was able to enjoy; both offline and ONLINE AGAINST OTHER PLAYERS, and of course, the famous and one of the hardest game modes of any game: HORSE.

Thank you Activision : a fan since Age 4

I was a huge fan of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games back in the day on the Nintendo 64. When I originally heard this was getting made I was super excited, but I was a bit disappointed after its release when it received quite blase reviews. When I bought this it was on sale for a couple of dollars, so I thought "why the heck not?" I have to say, for the amount I paid for it I have greatly enjoyed it. It is a lot of fun, and the game looks decent. Not as much as you may hope from an HD remake, but not terrible.

Here are some of the issues:
1) This is a definite PC port and there are very few in game options. Some things can be changed in the ini files, but even then some stuff just isn't changeable.
2) As said, the graphics are less then stellar, and the game didn't have native 1080p support. There is also a lot less polish than what you would hope for
3) This is a partial remake of THPS 1 and 2 combined. It doesn't have all of the levels from either, just a few from each. They should have included more of the levels (preferably all of them) from each of the games if they wanted it to be a real remake. They also should have included character creation (as per the 2nd game) and the ability to change wheels and the tightness of the trucks. For coming out more than a decade after the original two, you would expect it to be able to have all of the original features and then some.
4) The gameplay is significantly easier, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but those looking for a real challenge will have to use the honor system and exclude reverts and using the in game map from their runs.

These issues make what could have been a fantastic remake into a fairly mediocre, cash-grab like product. For what it is in its final form and what I paid for it, I was was overall pleased with it, even if I was a bit let down. I would only recommend getting this when it goes on sale.

3.0 out of 5 stars OG PS1 player of the original so I have a different view of this version

I bought this out of nostalgia from all the great times I had playing the original game with friends on the PS 1 wayyy back in the day so seeing an HD version available for PC made purchasing it a no brainer.

The highlight of this version is of course the updated graphics and the ability to play at very high resolutions. It doesn’t look like any of the original elements of the game had to be cut when making the jump to HD so that is a big plus. It has the same exact soundtrack as the original and with a purchase of an expansion you also would get stages, characters and music from Tony hawk 2 and more all within the same game which was cool. It was definitely a trip down memory lane.

The bad part is that even when playing with a controller the game feels nothing like the original and the controls felt ALL wrong to me. You are not able to pull of the same controller maneuvers that you could on the original and if you try to play that way you will almost instantly wipe out or glitch mid trick. This to me is a big issue because my muscle memory is situated to the original and having to relearn a new way of playing took away most of the fun. You used to be able to pull off WAY more stuff mid air before landing but now you are only able to pull off a trick or two and without that exaggerated “cartoon” like physics the game is not as fun as I remember it to be.

Aside from the controls, which I feel is like 80% of what makes this game unique, the only other issues I ran into were with the interface and options. The interface is different than the original and it doesn’t guide you in any way through the career mode so you are left having to figure out on your own what has to be done to open a new stage and advance without any real structure or linear path to the finish of a career. The other issue was I had some trouble with the resolutions. I am using 3440x1400 and while that resolution is indeed supported in the game I would be stick with 2 vertical black bars on my screen the entire time with no option to remove them. It almost seemed like the black bars were framing the middle of the screen as if was in 1080p with a 16:9 aspect ratio and you can imagine how annoying it would be to play with 2 big black bars constantly on screen blocking your view.

Bottom line: if you are new to this game then it probably won’t be that bad of an experience for you and I strongly urge you discover the fun this game has to offer but if you are a returning veteran of the original PS1 game like I am then the visuals and music will trigger nostalgia but the gameplay is going to fall short of what you remember so if you don’t want to be disappointed then I suggest veteran players think twice before you get this game.
