The Ring Floodlight Camera is awesome! It's super bright and lights up my driveway . The camera quality is clear, and I love how it sends alerts when it detects motion. It was easy to set up, and now I feel a lot safer at night. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good security light!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great device, but setup was problematic
Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024
I was tempted to give 4 stars due to problems during setup. Troubleshooting advice that came with device did not resolve. However, support when contacting the company was very good and the support agent stayed on the phone throughout the process of reboots, etc. to get it resolved.

The device itself is very capable. I love being able to set which area it should trigger based on and that it has an option to ignore vehicles and only trigger on people. You have to pay $5/month subscription for the device to be useful. That seems common for this type of device, but make sure you realize this and are willing to pay for a subscription before you purchase. The app is well made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Camera microphone don’t work

I can’t hear anything outside and can’t have a conversation with anyone. Was not aware until I needed it. People can hear me talk but I can’t hear them.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT product, but know your Wi-Fi and internet’s limitations
Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2022
We have a large 3-level house, so I bought 5 of these to get complete coverage. We also have a ring doorbell. I’ll break down my review into parts because I have a lot to say.

nstallation

The base comes with a built-in tab that you can hang the unit from while you’re on the ladder and wiring it up. This works well if you’re mounting it vertically. However I had 2 locations where I had to mount it upside down (replacing older light fixtures), and in that case the ribbon holding the unit wasn’t long enough, so I had to rig up an extension with an old lanyard. The ribbon needs to be just 2” longer.

Activation in the App

Ring did a great job here. Every one of my units was connected to Wi-Fi within a few minutes, and after downloading the latest code they were off and running. I used my iPhone 13 for setup, and it’s very intuitive if you’re somewhat technically inclined.

Connectivity

I checked the device health and noticed that 3 units were in the red, so I added a UniFi Wi-Fi access point to that side of the house, which mostly solved the problem. Ideally you want the RSSI to be better than -70, but I have one unit that still shows -74 and it works fine. Live View takes 3-4 seconds to come up on all my units. My 2 access points are UniFi UAP-AC-HD and UniFi UAC-AC-PRO.

Day-to-Day Use

The Ring software comes with a rich set of options. We had to activate Smart Alerts to avoid getting alerts for cats and raccoons, but that feature works well. The lights still come on immediately, but it seems to takes a few more seconds to get an alert for a Person. This is a fair trade-off. Ring’s app is easy to use, and my non-nerd wife figured it out pretty quickly.

I signed up for Protect Plus, currently $10 a month. It stores 60 days of video with no usage limits. I feel like this is a good price.

Summary

I haven’t used older Ring units, so I can’t compare to them, but I’m very happy with the quality of Ring’s latest software and hardware. This weekend I’ll be adding an indoor alarm system. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect. Video quality is not 2 or 4K but acceptable.

The motion detection on this light is fantastic! It captures any motion, even off the camera (which is confusing sometimes because you look and try to guess what triggered it, and wait for something to come onto the screen). This is a plus I think because I'd prefer to err on the side of capturing something versus not capturing something.

The lights are nice and bright. Good video quality overall, but not super high resolution which would make this and ideal light.

It was very easy to put up. Wiring is straightforward. Love that you just use existing light wiring and replace the fixture. No worries about replacing or charging batteries.

I am giving 4 stars simply because of the video quality, but assume that in the future a newer version might be better so I'm waiting for that.

It works very well.
