About this item

You are cordially invited to the wedding of Amerie Cross and Arnold Hightower.

And now, a toast from the maid of honor, Janelle Cross!

Hi everyone, thank you for being here. Some of you may know me as the sister of the bride. Some of you may know me as the ex-girlfriend of the groom.

But I'm willing to bet none of you know me as the woman secretly sleeping with the best man. I am. I know, I'm just as surprised as you.

It was only supposed to be for the week; but every kiss, adventure, and stolen moment with Rome Martin feels like it could last forever.

Oh well. What happens in Tulum stays in Tulum. Right?

Contains mature themes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I devoured this book!!

You know how people ask you for one book that you won't take ANNNNY criticism on?? Yeah baby, this is the one! I absolutely devoured this book from start to finish. At no point while reading this book did I feel like I couldn't wait for it to be over. It gave me alllllllll the feels!

First of all, lets get into my homegirl Janelle. I loved how much we got to see her growth throughout the book. From being that "people pleaser" type of person.. to straight up putting herself first and not giving a damn what anyone thought of it. I am here for it! It was amazing how much I was able to relate to her in a lot of different aspects. Sometimes it is very hard to put yourself first and simply be able to tell people "no" and I loved that we were able to see her reach that point.

My new book boyfriend Rome was giving everything he needed to give!!! I love how there was such a great representation of masculinity while also being a straight up GENTLEMEN! It was the perfect balance between the two. I needed to read something like this where we see that Rome don't play around!! He was so sweet and caring and he really brought out the best in Janelle and I love that. That is what finding a soulmate is all about and he certainly has set the bar high for my book boyfriends.

An honorable mention goes out to Evie because she is simply THAT GIRL! I think it is safe to say we all need a friend like Evie in our lives. I wish I could hear her story and learn a little bit more about her because that is my GIRL!

Overall I loved this book. I loved how relatable it was and it made me feel right at home. I told someone it felt like I was a bystander in the book and I felt like I was physically there throughout the whole Tulum trip. It was well written and is one of my favorite reads of the year so far! I needed a great refresh of a fluffy book and this did it for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars My type of romance book

I found my first book boyfriend y’all lol! Rome had me when he rented a yacht just so she could read by the water. He had her Kindle packed and she just needed to show up in her bathing suit! I knew when they had the excursion of swimming with the turtles, it was because of him! He SAW her past all the pain and suffering she was holding onto. He SAW her and took the stress away from her like he said he would. Reading with her AND the aftercare after taking control? The game proposal?! This was a MAN! MY man lol

This was such a beautiful book! Janelle being a doctor, specifically a OBGYN had my attention. What she wanted to do within the black community specifically for black women is the same vision that I have for myself when I become a doctor. I liked how I was able to see myself in this character more than I’ve ever ever been able to see myself in any other book that I’ve read.

You saw the growth in Janelle and I was so proud of her when she stood up for herself against her mom and sister. I could feel myself cheering for her and just being so excited. Those boundaries and hard conversations are necessary in ALL relationships. Rome and Evie had her back through everything. I’m glad she had Evie in her corner because her sister was too jealous and insecure for me.

This was the right amount of spice, money, success, drama, romance, connection, and maturity.

These are my favorite type of romance books. I like how straightforward everything was. Man is interested in woman and woman is interested in man and so they spend time together and explore that connection to see if it goes anywhere. It wasn’t too over the top or cliché with unrealistic fantasies or expectations. It wasn’t too childish to the point where it was just a cute palate cleanser. I don’t think that it moved too fast, I think it moved at the perfect speed, and there wasn’t a big miscommunication that caused them to break up and then have to reconnect further down the road. No games, no big trust issues, no extra heavy baggage that needed to be unpacked.

There’s something about wedding drama that always keeps readers at the edge of their seats, and “Only For The Week” by Natasha Bishop is no exception. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Tulum, this tale dives deep into the tangled web of love, loyalty, and betrayal.

What immediately caught my attention was the audacious character of Janelle Cross. The challenges she faces, both from her family and the complexity of her past relationship with the groom, adds layers to the story. It’s difficult not to sympathize with her as she navigates through the emotional maze, especially when the very people who should stand by her side seem to be against her. However, the silver lining in her tumultuous journey is the enigmatic best man, Rome Martin. Their budding relationship is both endearing and thrilling. The way Rome showers Janelle with attention and affection, especially with unique gestures like renting a yacht for a day of reading, was refreshing to read and left a lasting impression.

The narrative, though, had its moments of sluggishness. While I appreciated the depth of character development, there were points where I yearned for a quicker revelation, particularly about the rift between Janelle and her sister. It would have provided a smoother reading experience had some of these revelations come to light a bit sooner.

Nonetheless, “Only For The Week” offers an engaging storyline with unexpected twists and turns, leading to a satisfying conclusion. The transformation of relationships, especially Janelle finding love and understanding in an unexpected place, is a testament to life’s unpredictability.

In conclusion, the compelling characters and unique romantic gestures made it worth the journey. I would give “Only For The Week” a solid 4 out of 5 stars. For those who appreciate a mix of family drama, romance, and self-discovery, this is a read to consider.
