Usually I can stop reading a book and return to it when my schedule permits it. This novel is so compelling that I did not stop reading until I finished the last page. Nothing about this novel is disappointing. I admire the crafting of the characters and the plot. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

About this item
Christie is happy in her life... or so she tells herself. Despite a tragic childhood, she has built a satisfying career and loves her city apartment. But deep down she yearns for a simpler life. Family. A garden. And a place to heal her heart.
The decision to attend a funeral in a town she's never heard of throws her safe world into disarray, exposing the cracks in her life. As she deals with the fallout, Christie moves into a rundown cottage she's inherited and there, makes a discovery. A damaged painting. Unworn wedding rings. And a shoebox filled with unopened love letters.
Fifty years ago, a heartbroken young artist waited each dawn on a jetty for his true love to return. And each night, he wrote her a love letter.
What Christie uncovers will change her life forever.
This is a beautiful tale of love - sometimes lost, sometimes found and sometimes both. This is also a book with a mystery to solve which keeps your interest in the story. The author did an amazing job writing this book. The characters were well developed, the story was unique, and the descriptions helped you to feel the emotions, smell the scents, and visualize the persons, places and objects. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy romance with a bit of mystery and a HEA. Karen Thurmer.
Also available in audiobook, paperback, and hardcover.

A wonderful story but watch out for some profanity
Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2023
This novel will capture your interest from the first page. The author finely tunes the pace of solving the mystery surrounding Christie's long-lost aunt and Thomas. Each character is well rounded and distinct. My only negative is the use--albeit limited--of unnecessary profanity. It took away from the flow of the story as it stopped me. The author's skill in weaving a well written story would have me reaching for another one of her titles, but I won't due to the chance of objectionable language. I do prefer Christian fiction but have read other mainstream fiction without this issue. A disclaimer would have been nice.

I have enjoyed every heartfelt story I have read in this series. Phillipa has the ability to craft and unfold a story in such a way to pull so much emotion out of her readers. Putting them on the edge of the seat or causing outrage at how others treated them. Look forward to reading the rest of her series. She even causes you to have empathy for the world that surroundings you, and maybe even causes you not to be so quick to judge others.

loved, loved, loved the ending.....it was perfect

THE STATIONMASTER'S COTTAGE is a standalone read with a very, very happy ever after. There are no sex scenes or rough language so any age can read and enjoy. I LOVED this story. It was perfect for me. There is a family with a lot of secrets, never met relatives, a great love story, sorrow and sadness. It was the best read I have read in a while and I read a lot. Okay, there are a lot of characters. First there is Christi, then her grandmother Dorothy. Martha is Dorothy's sister. Tom is Martha's love. The setting is Australia, River's End a small community on the ocean. One street is town, everybody knows everybody and they know their business. It would be a great place to live. The story really begins in 1967.
Martha and Tom are engaged. However, there is a big misunderstanding and Martha tosses his ring back to him and runs away. She goes to Melbourne to live in the family's big home. The story then goes to current day 2016.
Christi receives word that her grandmother, Dorothy, has passed away and she is asked to attend the funeral. They were not close. Dorothy was a hard woman to be around or even to love. But Christi felt duty bound to attend since her grandmother did raise her after her parents were killed. So she goes. She discovers that gran has left her a small run down cottage on the cliffs above the ocean. She is troubled as to why she would be left the cottage when she discovers that her grandmother had a sister, Martha, and never told her about her existence. Christi had never heard of Martha and had no idea where she was and why she had never visited when she lived with her grandmother. However, she has been left a letter that explains there are secrets in the cottage. She is to discover them and give them to her sister. She is intrigued.
So she sets out to discover the riddle. In the small town some folks are quite friendly and some treat her rather rudely. She has no idea why they are acting this way. Now remember Tom lived in this town all his life. Martha had been raised in the big house, her family was quite wealthy, but they moved to the big city at one time. But everybody knows everybody's business.
She finds a box and she has the key to open it. and she does. Now if you want to know what is in the box and how she solves the story of the two lovers torn apart and lives destroyed, you will have to read the book. This was a great love story and it had a terrific ending. I LOVED it and was not expecting it. That broke my heart until the story took a big twist!! Great read and I definitely recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 6/3/2020

The Stationmaster’s Cottage by Phillipa Nefri Clark is the first in the River’s End series. Christie Ryan loves her life, so she tells herself. She has built a great career and loves her city apartment and her ambitious fiancé, Derek. Christie learns that her grandmother, Dorothy Ryan, has passed away. She heads to River’s End to attend the funeral and check out the rundown cottage she has inherited. While there, she makes a discovery and starts to put together a family puzzle that began fifty years ago. What she uncovers will change her life forever and she begins to acknowledge that what she really wants is a simpler life with a family, a garden and a home to heal her heart. Will it be with Derek or in River’s End?
Wow! What a story! Set in Australia and told between the present day of 2016 and 1967 in the past, The Stationmaster’s Cottage takes readers on a journey of self-discovery, secrets, betrayal and healing. I loved every moment of this story and eagerly read into each clue, trying to figure out the mystery. There were many, many surprises that I wasn’t expecting and even gasped at one reveal. I eagerly read well into the night, not willing to put it down until all the pieces were in place. I loved Christie and cheered as she began to stand up for herself and speak up for what she wanted in life. There are a great cast of characters that I hope to see in the rest of the series. I highly recommend The Stationmaster’s Cottage.
