About this item

From Wall Street Journal and #1 Amazon bestselling author Winter Renshaw comes a sizzling romance about two people who fall in love, go their separate ways, and then try to reconnect against all odds.

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride—and that’s the way I like it.

I may be anti-marriage, but I’m still pro-romance. Case in point? That sexy curmudgeon I met last year during my cousin’s tropical bachelorette getaway.

That grump was Dorian, the groom’s old college roommate, there for the bachelor party. I couldn’t get enough of his messy brown hair and gorgeous turquoise eyes. We connected on a deep level—emotionally and physically.

But the timing wasn’t right. So we made a pact to reconnect in two years. Now I’m starting a new “job.” It’ll take a lot of work and pays really well—I’m talking seven figures here. All I have to do is pretend to be my boss’s new fiancée…and spend eight weeks with his family on their private island. How hard could it be?

Turns out, a lot harder than I thought. Because the man I’m pretending to love? He’s Dorian’s brother, and now all bets are off…

4.0 out of 5 stars A great quick read

Each person in this book has completely different personalities and told in a way that goes from past to present almost chapter by chapter. I thought I would hate that but it was very easy to follow. I loved the main character Briar, she’s a sweet and caring woman who just wants to make everyone love her. Burke is an egotistical jerk who makes your blood boil. Dorian is the type of guy who is happy with just being himself. He loves his job and knows what he wants out of life. The storyline was fast paced and entertaining. A great quick read.

If you’re looking for spice this isn’t for you. There isn’t any. So let’s get into it:

*spoilers ahead*****

In all honestly, I found this book very boring and drawn out. I was unable to get a real connection with any of the characters which in my opinion is really important, especially when writing in rotating POV style. There are also constant time jumps that tell you HOW they know each other, but really it’s just a bunch of dialogue that really doesn’t add much to the story. It’s not exciting. Literally nothing happens. It’s just them talking the whole time. I think they hook up once or twice but it’s Mostly “fade to black” scenes.

Briar is painted as a pick me girl in all its glory. She’s “not like other girls” she’s so special and different because she loves baseball and doesn’t usually wear glittery dresses.
The guy (can’t even remember his name) is about as deep as a kid’s swimming pool. He’s sooooo rich, drop dead handsome, meets a girl for a couple days, and decides that he’s going to change his whole life for her. Also, he a manager for a famous band. That’s pretty much all you learn about him.

Did I mention they’re both anti-marriage and recently got out of crappy relationships. Yet, they fall in love in three days to the point they agree to spend 2 years no contact but also not dating so they can “wait for eachother”.

It’s just unrealistic. In my opinion I really didn’t feel any kind of real chemistry between the two either. They’re so in love with each other but it doesn’t really tell the story in a way that it even makes sense that they fall in love that quickly.

Its reads like a wattpad story in my opinion.

That being said, I could see how this type of story could fit someone’s likes. Probably wouldn’t be too bad for a teenager or someone who’s just now entering the grown romance genre. I didn’t notice any glaring plot holes or anything like that.

I loved how this book has such an intriguing story to tell. It is about Dorian, a free spirit who travels with a very popular band as their manager, and Burke, the wealthy older brother and Briar, a girl with a heart of gold who tries to see the best in everyone. I love how this book goes back and forth between what happened a year ago and the present time. If you like a love story full of emotions and a lot of twist and turns then I highly recommend you read “Fake-ish”. I couldn’t put it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dorian and Briar!

When Dorian met Briar the feelings he had for her were undeniable however he also believed that due to the demands of his career that a relationship between them would never succeed. Instead, he asks her to wait two years until he is in the position to pursue something with her however the next time he sees her it is a family event and she is engaged to his brother.

For financial reasons Briar agrees to pretend to be engaged to Burke, Dorian’s brother, so that he can claim his inheritance. This creates a complicated situation as she is unable to reveal the truth and Dorian is not happy that she is there with her brother. Let the drama begin!

Burke is a man you will despise and only makes the situation between Dorian and Briar more difficult. It is the things that Dorian and Briar don’t say that amps up the humor and the angst as they try to uncover all the truths both when it comes to his family and their relationship.

Wow. This book took me by surprised. I read the description and saw that the male lead has my name so it piqued my interest. Upon reading this novel I fell in love with Dorian because he reminds me so much of myself. I've read over 100 books this year as a goal. This book is by far the most well written book I've read. It reels you in and keeps you interested. I read this book within a few hours. This is my first time reading a book by this author and I can tell that I'm going to be a fan. Wow, Winter Renshaw!! You're a hidden gem. Thank you for using my name in your story because it led me to you.

Cute story line with easy to follow relationships. I wanted a little more character development as a lot of things felt surface level, but for a quick read that is to be expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A CONUNDRUM!

Briar and Dorian meet at at a destination engagement party and end up getting left by the party bus. Spending the entire night together talking, they forge a bond, completely changing their initial impressions of each other. Spending the next few days together changed the course of their lives. They planned to meet up in 2 years when Dorian would quit managing his band and stop traveling.

The shock of their lives is when they meet up a year later, Briar as the fiance of Dorian's brother! Briar is just doing it as a favor to her boss and he's paying her. Its just to make his sick father happy, or so she thinks. But the NDA she signs makes it impossible to explain anything to Dorian! What a conundrum!

These two have some painful interactions and my heart bled for them both. More issues are revealed which muddied the water even more! I couldn't figure out how they were ever going to resolve everything, but they did manage to do it! And I loved the Epilogue!

I listened to this book on Kindle Unlimited Listen and Read and enjoyed the narration!
