5.0 out of 5 stars All good until you have to adjust flame.

What a pain in the butt, but it looks good! For the price of this thing you can't pass it up. The one I got came with the regulator (which is ½in on the fitting) for propane. The unit has a way to change from natural gas to propane built in. Just look how to in the instructions. When I installed it the flames seem a little high on the low setting. Did not have a clue how to change and after an hour looking online found someone that shows it on this model.

To adjust flames. You unscrew the little screws holding each burner. Lift the glass off and you'll see the valves at the bottom (see pictures) you take a flat head screw driver to close the valve clockwise to lower the flame and counter clockwise to make higher.

I closed mine all the way and opened a half turn to start. Find where it's best for you and then reassemble.

Make sure if you use with propane to change the jets over from natural gas to the propane that are included (it's a 7mm btw) you need a wrench on middle burner and ratchet or 7mm attached to screwdriver.

The unit I received did not have a way to secure it down but stays in place when installed.

My wife is satisfied and I'm happy it's over. Hope this helps. Happy cooking!

Update: still a really nice unit as stated before. I have noticed that when cooking with larger pots/pans on front two burners the nobs will get quite HOT! Easy to clean and we are still happy with this buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well if you don't mind its flaws

This review was written two weeks ago, when we first installed the cooktop. I've edited the review with new comments and information in brackets.

When our 30 year old cooktop died, we spent hours and days searching and researching a replacement. We hesitated to buy this one, as we were afraid that the low price would mean low quality. It does not. [But it does have several major design flaws]

This cooktop is a high quality piece. The continuous grates are substantial. The flames light easily and stay lit. [The flames adjust from low to very high. However, even on the lowest flame, on all the burners, including the so called simmer burner, the flames are way too high]. The black glass top is easy to clean; but the round burner plates have a deep narrow circle that is almost impossible to get into to wipe up spiils. Unless you use a q-tip, you will not be able to clean up a spill. And if it is an oil spill that congealed and got baked in - you are totally out of luck. See photo.)

An added bonus is how little depth the cooktop needs under the counter. You can have drawers under this cooktop. Most other cooktops are too deep to allow drawers. The countertop cutout needed is 2" deep. As most counters are 1 1/2 inches thick, and cabinet frames another 1/2 inch, this cooktop can be installed in a cabinet that has drawers.

I love that the logo, and the burner indicators are under the glass, not printed on top where vigorous scrubbing will eventually remove them.

Some minor [ change that to major!] gripes - reducing it from a perfect 5 star to a 3 star

Flame is too high.
Front burners are not centered in grates. It is not easily seen where and how to place a pot.
Burner caps are discolored after only one use.
Metal burner base has deep indentation which is hard to clean.

I had wanted the safety of automatic re-ignition. Couldn't find any glass cooktop that had it, so I settled for thermocouplers instead. (The thermocoupler turns off the gas if the flame goes out, which is also a good safety feature.)

The electric cord was too short for us. We needed to buy an extension.

The installation instructions were neither clear nor complete. A long strip of foam tape was included, with no clue as to where to put it. It goes on the perimeter of the glass top, acting as a buffer between the cooktop and the counter.

All in all, it is an excellent [budget] choice cooktop. But if you are a serious cook, look elsewhere. We are still not sure if we are keeping it, or returning it.

1.0 out of 5 stars European fitting ?!%#@!!!
Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019
Until we get this blasted thing hooked up I can only give it one star though I’d like to give it no stars. The fitting for the propane/gas line has a European threading, BSP, and as far as I know, does not correctly connect to any US threading. Someone asked in the “questions” about this and the person replied that they found everything they needed at their local hardware store or HD. That’s crap. Every single hardware and appliance store I’ve called or visited, and there are a lot of them, has told me they don’t have anything to fit on that threading and are as confused as we are as to why they would sell it like this. I called Empava customer service and they told me to get a certain adapter from HD that “works for everyone, it’s tested.” When we got there we found that the fitting, #1, does not have BSP threading so how can in properly fit?! #2 converts the 1/2” fitting to a 3/8” fitting which is useless to us bc we have a 1/2” propane line. When we tried to explain this to the woman from Empava she became very impatient and rude. How can it be safe to connect 2 fittings with 2 different threads on a gas line? We bought it anyway, since it’s an hour drive for us, with a coupler to change it to 1/2” but that doesn’t have the same threading either so we’re very wary of trying it. We are DIYers and shouldn’t have to pay someone to hook up what should be a simple stove top. Why in the world would a company that sells to the US not have a US thread on their fittings??!!! Or at the very least include the damn fitting that you need. It’s absolutely ridiculous. We didn’t order online so that we could drive and call all over creation trying to find the flipping part that should be included in the first place! So far, Empava sucks. ~ very unhappy customers :(
*UPDATE*
We finally got it hooked up. I have no idea why Empava tells you to buy this fitting from HD that doesn’t properly fit (super dangerous) when there is the actual correct fitting here on Amazon. Anyway, my review still stands at 1 star or more like 0 star. I loath this appliance. And I cook a lot. Aside from the fact that the burners may or may not stay lit or you may need to hold the knob down for up to 3 minutes for it to stay lit or it doesn’t even work after 3 min and you get fed up and eat salad for dinner, the burners burn so high that even low is more like medium. I can’t imagine what you would do with the biggest burner on high besides starting a horrible fire. It’s scary. I can’t simmer anything. Even on the smallest burners on the lowest setting my pot still boils. So disappointed. I’m sending it back and will never buy anything from Empava ever again.
