5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased

Very pleased with this recorder, arrived as promised well packaged. It is larger than many I have seen which I appreciate with the larger buttons and display along with being easier to handle. Also uses regular batteries so I can carry spares rather than be dependent on charging especially if it has been idle for a time. Nice readable paper instructions included and very easy to use. Plugs right into the USB port and appears as a standard drive for easy drag and drop of files. Great performance and the micro SD slot allows for plenty of memory and can even load up music for listening. Includes input and output jacks. Nice appearance and ergonomics. Excellent value!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value and fast international delivery!

The bottom line: Very fast delivery for international purchase and amazing product for its price!

I bought this recorder on 22nd last month here on Amazon and had it send to Taiwan, where I live, using the cheapest Standard shipping method. The initial estimated time of delivery was 8th this month, but amazingly it delivered to my house on 31st last month, meaning it took less than 10 days to deliver and the item arrived at my place about a week earlier than the estimated delivery time, which is amazingly fast for international delivery and the fastest delivery I've ever had with any product I bought from Amazon so far. The package arrived safely and the product was intact and well protected.

The product itself met all my expectations and some more. In fact it's better than the price it asked for IMHO. I'm glad I didn't pay more for the higher-end and more expensive model. And I don't understand why some people complain about its size or lack of LED screen. For me they aren't problems at all. True it may not be as compact as some of sony's other more expensive models but it sure isn't bulky either. It's compact enough for me. Also the lack of LED screen doesn't bother me either because I don't use it in the dark anyway. Besides having LED screen would only drain the batteries more quickly and I definitely don't want that. The point is you get what you pay for. For me what's important is the features of the product, which it totally delivered. I love that the settings are highly adjustable so that it can meet all the different recording needs and scenarios. And the ability to extend its memory up to 32GB through microSD card comes in handy too, especially if you need to record in the highest quality format LPCM. Speaking of quality, I mostly use this recorder for lectures and language learning and the recording quality is crisp and clear (the noise cancellation feature helps a lot there), and far superior than recording with iPhone (obviously).

Overall I have nothing to complain about its functions and recording quality. My only gripes (if there's any) are: Firstly the sound quality of the built-in speakers are less than satisfactory. Fortunately I never use them and only listen to the recording files with my earphones, so it's not an issue for me. But if you plan to use them then don't expect too much. They are merely servicable at best. Secondly you can't recharge the device with its USB plug even if you have rechargable batteries inside. I pointed this out because I used to have an older model that could do that but this one doesn't have that function. But again it's only a slight inconvenience so I can live with it. Besides, like I said earlier, you get what you pay for.

All in all I was very happy with this recorder and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a quality recording device but doesn't want to spend a fortune and waste money on bells and whistles they don't need.

2019/4/2 UPDATE:
After more than 8 months of use, this recorder still works perfectly for me and I've also come to find that the build of the device is very robust because I've accidentally dropped it a few times from the desk or from my hand, yet there's barely a scratch. Although if I have to nitpick (other than what I've already mentioned above), I wish the recorder would allow the user to save their custom settings so they can easily switch among different ones depending on the situation. Also it takes a bit too much time to turn on the device. In normal circumstances this wouldn't be a problem but if you want to record something on the spot and you don't have it already turned on then it could be a bit annoying. But like I said, those are just my personal nitpicking and they don't affect my original review.

I'm learning to play piano, and bought this to record my music as I learn. I've never owned a recorder, so did not know if the speaker "noise" I hear is normal. Like a low static when nothing is being said or played on my piano and in between pauses. I downloaded the help guide looking for an adjustment option. I was able to adjust microphone sensitivity and selected the "lecture" scene (it quiets the speaker a little). I contacted the seller just to ask if this was normal, but after going back and forth with acknowledgement of my emails (2) and a request for my invoice # over the course of 6 days so far, I've kind of given up on them. I decided to keep it because the price is decent and when I focus on the music I don't notice the speaker "noise" so much. There were a lot of good reviews on this. It's nice and compact, and other than that slight noise, I like it overall, so I gave it four stars. Maybe this noise is normal, but the customer service was poor, so I'll leave four stars either way.

You won't find a better voice recorder than this within the same price range. And you wouldn't need one anyway- the sound quality and playback are equally great. (Rubber bands not included-I'll explain about them!)

KEY STRENGTHS

It lets you adjust the recording format between 3 different MP3 levels (48 kbps, 128 kbps, 192 kbps) and linear PCM, an even higher sound-quality format.

It has two auxillary holes, one for a line in, one for a line out, so one can record crisp musical playing via one and listen to it on headphones (or a speaker) with the other.

This device plays MP3, PCM, AAC and .WAV files as good as any MP3 player, and can even play the songs slowed down or sped up (if you're into that). Of course, you can do this with any of your recordings as well.

It allows you to name the file folders. There are some basic folder names to choose from built in; you can also connect it to a computer and name them whatever you want. Also nice, it allows you to name the files themselves.

And yes, it's awesome that this device is USB compatible. I usually like to place a USB cord between it and my pc, because I feel this is less stress on the recorder, but it is a pretty sturdy feeling thing and I haven't had any problems with it getting damaged.

Has a nice power switch that's also a hold button, great for hands-free MP3 listening or what have you.

Gives you ability to insert track marks and divide the tracks up however you like.

The external memory capacity brings the total space up from 4 GB (enough for most things but not your Itunes library) to 36 total, giving you all the space you're likely to need. I personally love that these come with micro-SD card slots, because that's what allows me to put tons of music on these things.

KEY GRIPES

I really wish that they had given this thing a rechargeable battery of some sort rather than requiring it take two AAAs. I would rather have to charge it every once in a while than need to replace the batteries, however infrequently.

The screen, which ought to have a backlight, does not. I will say that in regular light I have no problem reading it, though.

Housing of screen, while solid, is very slightly permeable on one side, such that heavy use may lead to little particles getting stuck in it.

As good an MP3 player as it is, I wish it provided me with greater freedom in terms of equalizer for sound. Like more treble or bass (all it offers are some presets which I don't find super helpful). Of course, you can hook it up to a speaker with those capabilities.

ANYWAY,

I loved this recorder so much that I bought a second one in February, a couple months after purchasing the first. I would argue that the rubber bands are a great life-hack because they compensate for my clumsiness, which is pronounced, as well as a tendency of the device to lose its batteries when I kept dropping it. Not only do the elastics hold the back on no matter what, they will cushion the fall somewhat and enable me to tell the two things apart!

I am a music lover and a musician, and this has everything to do with why I got this IC recorder to begin with. It is immensely useful for musical ideas, even when I don't use the aux line in. I use one for louder music, one for softer music. I know that these are, if anything, over-qualified to be your voice recorder(s). With this much space on each of my voice recorders (each containing a 32 GB microSDHC card), I could honestly fit all my musical files on one of them; it would simply take a longer time to scroll through the artists in music mode. You can store music or other recordings on either internal memory or SD, and transfer them to a computer or certain other devices. I even put some of my recordings on my PS3 using these! And I use them as MP3 players pretty much every day.
