5.0 out of 5 stars Nuance (Kofax) Power PDF - Best Editor @ Reasonable Price

FOR REFERENCE ... I consider BlueBeam Revu to be the gold standard for what I have to do with a PDF Editor (reviewing and marking up construction plans). However, it is way too expensive and only lets you use it on one computer. I needed something for my personal computer. Something better than what Adobe offers. Nuance (Kofax) Power PDF is it. I tried out a number of other programs free trials and Power PDF came the closest to giving me what I need.

Power PDF is a great alternative for my personal computer and does some of the basic things I need for a reasonable price. Now that Nuance has sold it to Kofax, I hope they keep the price under $90, otherwise I may just pony up for BBR. Power PDF has a great interface, functions much easier than Adobe, is not some money grubbing annual subscription deal, and has features Adobe just doesn't have. GOOD JOB POWER PDF.

If I can offer a few suggestions to Power PDF:
1) It starts up a bit too slow while it loads various components. This wastes some time.
2) It should all you to Flatten AND UNFLATTEN. And it should allow you to Flatten Selected Items(s) only.
3) You should be able to edit Page "Number" just by double clicking it in the Pages Panel. This is hidden very deep in a right click Number Pages function and you have to trick the software into letting you put a title on one page. Make it easy please!
4) Provide some kind of FREE signature method similar to Nitro Pro. Having to use some outside method (which is ok to keep for those that pay for it) is a no-go.
5) Add more measurement, scale setting, markup, and drawing tools. Good so far, but take a quick peek at BBR and add what you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the password protection for emailing PDF's

I had bought Adobe Acrobat Pro from a very high feedback seller on a popular auction site to use with my scanner. But several months after I installed and registered it, Adobe started nag popup warnings saying they would lock it down, I should uninstall it. It was an authorized full retail boxed version of 2016 according to Adobe when I called them about that, it was not pirated. The reason was, even though it was an official retail version, Adobe does not let sellers to offer it after the year it was put out which was 2016, I bought in 2018, so when I registered when I got it they did not warn me then, they would not explain???? Anyway Power PDF Advance has turned out to be a perfect replacement! I only scan receipts and occasional email out forms/info pdf's that I want to password protect, and sometime edit a PDF. So, this was a perfect affordable replacement over paying high price monthly fees for Adobe's new online version of Acrobat. In a lot of ways it easier to use too, once you figure out it's menu. It also works great with my ScanSnap scanner also, and there is no monthly rent to use fees, which is also perfect when you only need to use it a few days out of 3-4 months.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of useful capabilities; reasonably priced for its capability.

I finally got sick and tired of not being able to do a few very simple things (like password protecting a pdf file , so it can be e-mailed, easily commenting, editing, or marking up pdf files, and converting image-only text files to files with searchable, editable text), without having to pay the OUTRAGEOUS subscription price for Adobe Acrobat to be able to do these things. So I broke down and purchased KOFAX Power PDF Advanced 3.0. Very glad I did. Delivery of the product was spot on. Promised two days; it was here in two days. The main feature I purchased this for was to be able to password-protect files containing sensitive information, that I want to e-mail to someone. While it took me quite a while to understand the password protection features, and how they work (using the Help facility), once I figured it out, this worked very well. It feels like the program was designed to work as closely as possible to "standard," "mainstream" software like Microsoft Office's suite (Word, Excel, etc.), with respect to menus, shortcut icons, etc., without being "too" close and getting "hammered" for copyright or patent encroachment by Big Tech. Has a lot of great features and capability, and, once you get used to where everything is (how to get to specific commands / features), it seems to work very nicely. One thing I don't like -- my personal preference -- is the unappealing, amateurish-looking icons (and the purple color of those icons, as well as of the application's user interface) for the program and any .pdf file, once you tell Windows to use this program as the default application for opening pdf files. I much prefer Adobe's icon designs and color scheme. (Of course the developer can't use Adobe's designs, or anything close to them, but I think it would help if a little more "imagination" and effort was used in coming up with more professional-looking and appealing icons and color scheme.) All-in-all, in the short time I've had / used this product, it is a winner, in my book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Regret buying it despite its uses

UPDATE: Have quickly grown to dislike the program and really REALLY resent the company for forcing itself on me. Despite turning off both Nuance start-up items, I cannot stop the automatic demands that I register with Nuance when restarting the computer. It's either do it now, or in 7 days. "Do not ask again" is not an option.
I consider this the same as malware.
Original review was four stars:
Like other people, I got tired of Adobe's switch to a subscription-based system. I tried a few alternatives and settled on this Nuance software for two main reasons, particular to my needs:
1. Superior ability to convert a PDF to word processing, including WordPerfect, my mainstay. The Nuance software is better than Acrobat on this score.
2. Ability to save a web page as a single page, not arbitrarily broken up into physical page sizes. I've not been able to do this with any other software.
That's the good.
Here's what I DON'T like:
1. The obligatory ribbon menu. I hate ribbon menus. Wish Nuance gave users a choice.
2. The search function is poor --- Acrobat is superior in that respect.
3. Pushy company. For example, after installing, I had to go to my start-up settings to stop automatic demands that I either register, or be reminded in 7 days. "Thank you but no" is a not a given option. Annoying.
