About this item

A couple preparing for the future discovers that their dream house will cost them far more than the mortgage in a sinister short story by the New York Times bestselling author of We Were Never Here.

Lauren and Kelsey: married, a baby on the way, and now the new owners of the Hudson Valley house they’ve always admired. The timing couldn’t be better, and the leafy, secluded area couldn’t be more beautiful. Everything’s perfect—except for the older gentleman across the street, who seems to be keeping a very close watch on them. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Andrea Bartz’s The Other Side of the Road is part of Never Tell, a heart-pounding collection of stories about secrets, lies, and mind games. They can be read or listened to in one sitting. Just keep the endings to yourself.

Her writing is subtle. You don’t realize how she is leading you to the climax until you step off the proverbial cliff. It was an excellent way to end the story. I can’t wait to see what her other books are like. I hope a new favorite.

3.0 out of 5 stars Desperation will that to you, I suppose

If this had been a full length story, rather than a short story, I probably wouldn't have finished it. Its not terrible, but the only memorable part is my realization that I'd probably have the same reaction as Lauren and probably for the same reason. I'm not exactly thrilled about that fact. Anyway, its well written, you get a decent feel of who all the characters are and their relationships with others, and the pieces of the puzzle all make sense. Not that it was complicated, but I've read and watched shorter things that mess that part up. Its only about a 45 minute read, so you won't feel like you wasted your time if you read it and don't like it.

A quick, suspenseful, thrilling, read!

So far, all the stories in this never collection have been the perfect amount of suspense and chills!

Married couple, Lauren and Kelsey are expecting their first child and have moved into their dream home in the Hudson Valley.

Lauren is immediately suspicious of her new neighbor Hank from across the street. He always seems to be watching the house, Lauren is uncomfortable with the way he stares at her wife, and on a coffee visit at Hank’s house, Lauren discovers just how perfect a view of her home Hank has from ???????????????????????? his house.

Feeling paranoid and anxious about their new home, Kelsey’s pregnancy, and the creepy messages from another neighbor who claims to be a medium, Lauren goes on a search throughout the house to uncover the truth about her new home and its previous resident.

A great twist and amazing narration from Kira Fixx are a perfect one-hour escape into a modern gothic story that will leave wondering what came after…

And now I am lost. Interesting story, characters and setting. But at the end of the day I still don’t know whodunit.

I enjoyed the first half of this short story and I thought it was well written. Unfortunately, I did not like the ending at all. It felt unfinished and it left me with many questions.

Nice short story, but it sure wasn't clear what Loren was talking about at the end of the story. Got that?
