About this item

It takes nothing less than a fateful natural disaster to throw two opposites together in a ground-shakingly charming short story by the New York Times bestselling author of Drunk on Love.

This Valentine’s Day, Daisy Murray has her heart set on binge-watching rom-coms. Instead, an earthquake traps her inside a bakery with its impossibly rude and insufferably handsome owner and head baker. They already have a history: she’s always smiled, he’s always scowled. Where better to finally get to know each other than amid the disaster? Then again, they have no choice. Besides, it could have its sweet, undeniable, and unpredictable perks.

Jasmine Guillory’s Drop, Cover, and Hold On is part of The Improbable Meet-Cute, irresistibly romantic stories about finding love when and where you least expect it. They can be read or listened to in one sitting. Let’s make a date of it.

I was almost disappointed because the beginning seemed like a setup for a grumpy/sunshine trope. Which I do not enjoy. Grumpy men are not my thing. It quickly became clear that Harris wasn’t grumpy at all. Daisy wasn’t full of sunshine either. She was really goofy. Their little close proximity connection was cute, but their expedited trip to intimacy wasn’t what I was expecting. Understanding the limitations of a short story format, I expected things to progress quickly. I just didn’t find their rush to the bedroom to be appealing.

It was fun to read a new-to-me author.

???? ????????????????????????:  The Improbable Meet Cute novella series, by various authors.

???? ???????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????:  Listened to audio on Kindle.  ????️ on KU to read & listen.

???? ????????????????????: Contemporary Romance

???? ????????????????????????: Meet cute, insta-love, grumpy/sunshine

???? ????????????????????????????????: Daisy vows not to go back to the bakery where the grumpy owner always scowls at her.  But an earthquake forces her through the door, and closes them in together.

???? ????????????????????????: One of the thing I was so excited for with this little novella collection was to read a few new-to-me authors, and I can't wait to dig into Jasmin Guillory's backlist.

This novella was perfect - kind of sweet, kind of spicy, and definitely swoony. Not one of these books has left me in a sour mood. They're perfect palette cleansers, and even better if you need something to make you smile.

Daisy is all alone on Valentine’s Day and has decided to take the day off, binge some rom-coms and buy some of her favorite pastries from the grumpy baker who hates her. Just her luck the bakery cases are empty and there’s that grumpy and gorgeous baker! Suddenly everything started to shake and Daisy knew it was an earthquake, but the grumpy baker just stood there looking stunned. Daisy had to tackle the muscular and hunky guy to save him from a giant bakery rack that was falling toward him, and he returned the favor by dragging Daisy under the table and covering her with his big warm body. (Which she totally didn’t notice.)

As it turns out, the grumpy baker just had resting grump face, and maybe had the hots for Daisy. This is a really cute story with a slightly spicy ending. Happy Valentine’s Day and here’s hoping for good things for all you singles out there. I’ll give this a 4.5 for fun, writing and creativity and even character building in a very short story.

It was okay. Not the best of this author but only because I feel there was a lot that could’ve been added to the story. The ending was very abrupt.

As a Jasmine Guillory fan this one is classic Jasmine Guillory IMO. Lots of food or dessert talk, the Bay area setting and a confident Black FMC. I really liked this one, I thought the premise was cute, I liked the forced proximity of it all. I will say that I wish we got to see the meet cute between the MC since this series is about meet cutes, and I think the end felt a little rushed, but ultimately it was a fun novella.

Daisy has been getting bad vibes from Harris since his bakery opened. He's always scowling when she's around. Being locked in together lets her get to the bottom of his discontent - he likes her but doesn't want to lose a customer if she's disinterested. Plus he's got RBF. She's not good at signals though. Did she think he was just giving extra cupcakes to everybody?!

4.5 Stars rounded up.

“Yeah. You’ve heard of resting bitch face, right? I would assume so—your picture is right next to the definition in the dictionary. Well, you see, I have resting smile face…”

What I loved: A man who bakes, forced proximity, a second chance to make a first impression.

We always judge people by the expression on their face, and in this short story, one man’s RBF almost prevents him from getting to know his dream woman.

This is a very cute story that left me hungry for baked goods. I need a croissant now!
This is a fun, very well-written meet-cute
My only criticism is that while the FMC is clearly emotionally intelligent, it seemed out of character that she would be THAT clueless about the MMC’s intentions.

Narrator extraordinaire Aure Nash absolutely slays the Audible presentation. ????????
