About this item
From acclaimed author Dr. Jason Fung, a revolutionary guide to reversing diabetes.
Dr. Jason Fung forever changed the way we think about obesity with his best-selling book, The Obesity Code. Now he has set out to do the same for type 2 diabetes.
Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease. The only way to treat type 2 diabetes effectively, he argues, is proper dieting and intermittent fasting - not medication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!
Not only is this book worth reading it serves as a great reference to continue learning about how the ADA and others have misled the public for decades.
Thanks for sharing Dr. Fung! I am especially grateful for your continued support and hard work to ensure the truth can be fully disclosed to everyone who will listen to it, embrace it, and accept it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete Picture
In short, good book, solid science, may be too technical for some, but perfect for the person who wants to understand the whys and what for’s of insulin resistance. Low Carb/High (healthy)Fat clean eating and IF seems to be the prescription here.
UPDATE: It only took two weeks for me to improve my fasting blood glucose from an average of 131 to 88 solely from using the Clean Keto diet and IF. I have lost some weight, as well. My hypertension has not gone down yet, but I am hoping that this will be my prescription for that, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was an eye-opener!
I read this book cover to cover - twice, with hundreds of highlighted passages - and what I took away from it was 1) constant snacking throughout the day (even on "healthy" foods) does our bodies no good, as there is a constant struggle between insulin producing organs and insulin resistant cells, 2) intermittent fasting, done in a reasonable manner, can give your body a chance to "rest" for even a few hours and quiet that constant insulin-insulin resistant battle, and 3) whole, natural foods are what your body needs (duh) and stop overfeeding your cells! You will not die if you skip a snack.
We decided we needed to do something radical to give his kidneys a chance to "rest" and hopefully reset. We decided - together - to clean out the pantry of high-carb, high-sugar, high-sodium, low nutrition foods. We cleaned out the freezer of all pre-prepared meals, looking specifically at the hidden sugars and sodium. Oh, how it hurt to get rid of chips, pretzels, candy, frozen meals, and dips. Hubs used to snack all day on Twizzlers, Goldfish, Doritos, Take 5 bars, and anything else he could find grazing in the pantry. Now, he's gotten quite proficient at reading food labels! We do allow ourselves the occasional "cheat", but we know know that, according to the book, "the poison is in the portion". If we want a questionable snack, we choose the least unhealthy we can and we portion control. We are only human, after all...
The hubs' cardiologist, nephrologist, and PCP are skeptical of the approach we've taken for the past two months to eat between 6am and 3pm only with no snacking, but I can tell you that hubs' daily glucose went from close to 300 to less than 130. Some of his medications have been changed. He doesn't need daily naps. He has more energy. He's sleeping through the night with no muscle cramps. I've been doing intermittent fasting myself (a little more rigorously than he has) and I've dropped 20 lbs in 2 months and have way more energy than I did before. My digestive issues have calmed way down. Most surprising is that my daily chocolate craving has disappeared (no desire for chocolate at all for the past 9 weeks, and I used to make entire meals out of M&M's or Take 5 bars), and my daily glucose reading has gone from around 180 to less than 120.
Yes, check with your doctor before embarking on any severe diet change. This approach doesn't require you to not eat for days on end. You CAN tailor this approach to your own likes, dislikes, and tolerance. And, it feels empowering to know you CAN control what you CHOOSE to eat, and that you can see quick benefits.
You control the food, the food does not control you.
