There were three vehicles caravaning up into the mountains and each driver had one of these walkie-talkies. They work really well! We were able to communicate even when we got out of sight from each other. Also worked great between our camsite and with friends on the lake. I was so grateful to have these! They stayed charged the whole week we were camping! The sound quality was clear and they are really easy to use.

This is my third pair of FRS radios in about three months. I use these daily to set up K9 Search & Rescue problems for my dog in the Rocky Mountain region. It isn’t practical to use radios that require a license for training because I’m always using different ‘subjects’ so that the dog learns to discriminate between the scent of different people. For those who don’t know, the FCC limits the power on FRS channels to 2-watts which isn’t much. In certain terrain, the usable range of these radios can be less than a mile but that’s the downfall of all FRS radios - regardless of the range manufacturers put on the box. These radios can also access GMRS channels and will automatically transmit with 5-watts of power on GMRS channels. This does help extend the range slightly over FRS. We have tried Midland and Motorola radios; they all perform similarly on the respective 2-W and 5-W channels. The difference between Cobra and others is volume, durability, and the user interface. The radio models I have tried that use buttons for volume adjustment are not practical to use. You have to be in the right mode to adjust volume and some have such weak speakers that you can’t hear the radio unless you hold it to your ear. The two main functions of any radio are on/off and volume. Because those two functions are on a dial, the buttons on the front of the radio can remain locked once the radio is set up. This is huge! With other radios, you are constantly fiddling with the buttons to lock and unlock the buttons each time you use them. Lastly, the Lithium ion batteries perform better than expected. I was hesitant to purchase these because it’s really easy to swap out AA batteries in the field. The lithium ion batteries have good life and the indicator gives you plenty of notice when the battery starts to fade. These radios are about as good as they get for non-licensed use.

My husband and I wanted an easy way to communicate while driving across country and walkies were the best solution! I really only have one complaint and that is the duel charger they came with. After a night of charging and 30-45 minutes down the road one walkie would drop to 2 battery charge instead of 3.

It would happen back n forth, so we did need to make sure we both had a charger in our vehicles for the walkies. Other than that I just wish I would have invested in a headphone to pair with it. Only because there were areas of our 2500 mile trip where I needed both hands on the wheel driving our Uhaul. Other than that and my husband missing an exit in Nashville, we were able to communicate the whole drive even in areas with no phone service.

I'm very happy with the purchase and now we can use them when we're out fishing and separated. They are easy to clip on to jeans, thicker yoga pants, they pop onto pockets, and the back is easy to pop off if you do not need the clip.

I would definitely recommend. We only ever really tested being a mile away from each other until that wrong turn and then I'm uncertain how far he was away from me when I got him back on the walkie, but it had to have been more than a mile and many many cars between us both.

Works great with the kids. Easy to use, very quick response when transmitting and receiving. Previous set of inexpensive units took almost 1/2 second to connect; these respond quickly.
Only issue is the advertised 32 mile max range. That would have to be in free space or in the middle of an ocean or sea, or from a two mile high peak. High power mode is 1.5 watts and that stretches out to 2-3 miles on a good day in the real world.

I purchased this product and did not use it until after the Amazon return window closed. One of the walkie talkies did not work from the beginning. Since it was after the Amazon return window, I reached out to the manufacturer for a replacement. They stated that I had to pay to ship the defective item back to them which turned out to be $20.25 (nearly half of what the item cost me in the first place). I reached out to Amazon’s customer service to see if maybe just credit my Amazon account $20.25 in exchange for proof of the shipping charge as an easy customer service fix but no. Apparently that was way too much to ask. The lack of empathy or care for the customer by both Cobra and Amazon for this purchase has been absolutely pathetic.

We live on a 15 acre highly wooded and very mountainous property. These walkies do the job we need em to do, keep connected when out for a walk with the dog. Daughter of 7 loves them cause she can reach me in my office/garage/shop, my wife on her walks and we all know what eachother are up to. Way better than a cell phone for our needs and well, more fun. No problems with use so far after a few weeks of use and some rather long distance / clear comms from everywhere on our property and even a bit beyond. Really good walkies for the money and perfect for family use. Very easy to use the basics. The advanced features are a bit more tricky (and not needed generally) but nothing a small bit of tinkering wont figure out. We leave them on for days at a time and so far ive yet to see one drop below 4 out of 5 bars of battery life. Charger is decent. wish it came with more than a USB plug. An outlet with normal ac adapter would have been preffered by me at least but not a deal breaker. Overall... great product and i bought again as they worked so well for us. Good job cobra. Nice to see some companies are still reputable enough to trust.
