5.0 out of 5 stars Great Compact Lightweight Radio / Light / Phone Charger For Emergencies, Camping, Hiking or Boating
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2016
This little jewel would provide invaluable during emergencies. It will provide 50 lumen LED light, AM/FM/NOAA radio and even a way to charge phones. The items that come packaged in the box are:-
1x Esky weather radio
1x mini USB charging cable
1x 2.5mm output charging cable
1x 2.5mm connector to USB converter
1x User Manual
1x Warranty card
This device has 2 ways to charge during emergencies when electricity is not available. It can be charged by the hand crank on the side or the solar panel on the top. It can also be charged by other means like USB wall charger and USB cord from your computer. I was even able to charge this device from the USB outlet in my truck. The 50 lumen LED light is very bright. I was able to run the light for 15 hours on a fully charged device. The radio works well and picks up AM/FM and also the NOAA weather stations. Tuning in the stations is easy and they come in relatively clear. The antenna is a little over 9 inches long and lets down and folds compactly on top on the unit. The 2 charging ports are on the back of the device and they are covered by a rubber flap that protects them from the weather. The device is made from a sturdy plastic with almost a rubbery feel to it. Light moisture and rain will shed off the device although it is not designed to be completely waterproof. It can be carried by a handy lanyard cord that is attached to the back. It is light and compact at only 7.7 ounces and the dimensions are Length 5" X Height 2 3/8" X Thickness 1 3/8". It can easily be carried in the pocket and does not take up much space if packed in an emergency bug bag out or hiking backpack.. One of the best features about this device is that is will charge cell phones. I was able to put enough charge on an apple iPhone and an LG smart phone to make calls with. For all the features wrapped up in this emergency device, one cannot go wrong by purchasing it especially at the affordable price. It would be money well invested during an emergency or when camping, hiking or boating where there is no power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Radio/Light/Charger for Emergencies
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2018
Very neat little emergency jack of all trades. Recently Hawaii had a powerful hurricane come very close to hitting and although it didn’t greatly affect the majority of the islands, it was a serious threat. These kinds of things make you check your disaster preparedness kits and this was the one thing we didn’t have and couldn’t get before the storm.

A radio is very important to have around and I liked that this had a variety of ways to have power including a hand crank, a small solar panel, and a rechargeable 1000mAh battery. It also has a decent light and the ability to charge your devices via USB port on the back.

The device feels pretty durable for a cheaper plastic build. I think it should hold up with proper care but it isn’t necessarily built to throw around. I think the build is reasonable for the price.

The radio works as well as I’d hope. It is easy enough to dial into the stations and with the telescoping antenna it can pick up a signal very well. The speaker is cheap and nothing to write home about but it is more than functional for its intended use.

I think a problem with these type of handcrank radios is that due to not using them very much between potential disasters, the batteries lose their capacity and become nearly useless outside of hand cranking it the entire time you’re using it. I imagine that this can be an issue for this radio and so it is probably important to store it with about a half a charge and occasionally check and recharge as needed to maintain the battery health.

Overall I think it’s great and important to have and hopefully I’ll never have to truly test its importance but I think it is a good deal for the price and I can recommend it.

A very nice product. Three ways to charge, by Type C Cable, By Solar and By Crank Shaft although I have not yet been able to charge by crank shaft as of yet. I use this for daily and nightly weather updates in a high rise apartment complex for others to hear the daily updates for safety. Also has a flashlight and comes with a Type C Cable. Very satisfied. Also has an SoS call button. Very informative.

The device is small but the flashlight is really good. It lit up a large amount of the room. There are many ways to charge it and the sos was an added surprise.

This has a flashlight, siren and radio that can be charged with ahand crank, solar or batery. I leave it on my windowsill at all times. It can be an emergency charger. Important for when the power goes out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Update: Refunded - Not sure about the charging portion.
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2024
Update: The seller reached out and offered a full refund for my troubles. I'm still pretty happy about that seeing as I had resigned myself to a loss. Thanks!

Original: I mainly got this to charge my mobile devices because I am experiencing a power outage. It has not been particularly helpful there. It will connect to my phone or iPad for a second before the charge drops. If I unplug and plug it back in, it’ll do the same thing. There is no consistent connection. I’ve used both the provided USB to USB-C and my own charging cords which work fine normally. I’m pretty disappointed with that aspect.

As far as the radio and flashlight portion goes, both work pretty well. The flashlight is what you’d expect. A light. Works. The radio catches signal well and sounds decent. I’m not a massive radio-listener, but I enjoy tuning in here and there.

Overall, I would’ve saved my money if I had been more pessimistic about the charging function, but it is what it is.
