About this item

A sweet toaster-oven lesbian romance that asks whether the one we're meant to be with might be right under our nose.

Reserved tattoo artist Riley Foster has just moved apartments and can't take her eyes off the single mom who lives next door. Riley is trying very hard not to succumb to the cliche of falling for the straight girl as she gets to know Kim Jackson, an outgoing baker with an adorable nine-year-old son.

A friendship forms and Riley even finds herself roped into playing Kim's fake girlfriend to get her meddling family off her back.

What could go wrong . . . except for Kim suddenly questioning whether she's not as straight as she thought! As the sexual tension slowly builds, it's hard not to wonder whether they'd be good together for real. But is it worth risking a great friendship if Riley doesn't feel the same way?

Contains mature themes.

When tattoo artist Riley and her lovable dog move in next door to beautiful single mom Kim and her cute son Tyler, no one expects their friendship to evolve into a fake romance that feels a little too real sometimes.

Love Next Door is cute and charming right from Riley and Kim’s first meeting. Their easy friendship develops naturally, thanks in part to Kim’s precocious son and Riley’s friendly pooch. Even though Kim is supposedly straight and cursed with a terrible dating record, the chemistry between her and Riley is so real that a romance seems inevitable…to everyone but them. Riley, Kim, Tyler, and all the side characters are endearing and fun, and there is only a small amount of angst, making this a truly enjoyable and relaxing read.

If you like slow burn toaster oven sapphic romances with a bit of fauxmance thrown in for good measure, you’ll adore Love Next Door.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good storyline, but overuse of descriptor word

I liked the story, but the use of the word white repeatedly to describe skin was jarring. I appreciate that race should be identified across the board rather than assuming all characters are white unless otherwise stated, but as a descriptor word for color when not being used to identify race, it needs more creativity to paint a picture in the mind.

I have enjoyed Rachel's writing since her first book and never been disappointed. Her characters are interesting and well written. The story line is interesting and fun to read. I recommend this book if you like romance, comedy with some drama (enough to make it interesting).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Sweet Love Story!

I loved this book. I loved all the supporting cast to the mains, Riley and Kim. Riley just moved to her own apartment after living with her sister for years. Her rescue dog Cari and her will be alone for the first time. As she is moving in Cari goes and greets her neighbors as they come home. Kim and her nine year old son, Tyler have lived there since her divorce. But when Tyler and Cari meet, there is love. As for Kim and Riley. Kim is intrigued. Never has she seen a women who was tatted all over and looking damn sexy especially her eyes. Riley looks Kim over and definitely likes what she sees. As they become neighborly, Riley develops an attraction for Kim and even though Kim is trying to date, all she can think about is Riley. This is a slow burn story that is actually worth it.

Really good slow burn. Recommend to anyone reading the comments. Not gonna retell the plot here. The character development is great & dialogue is funny. Quick read that doesn’t disappoint

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a fake dating romance

This book was alright. It wasn't great, nothing about it blew me out of the water or anything. It is not a fake dating romance though, no matter what the synopsis says. The fake dating is used more as a plot device than a plot point. It helps move the story along, but it doesn't really become important to the building of the relationship between Kim and Riley.

The romance was very slowburn. A lot of the book is actually just them hanging out as friends, running into each other, etc. It gets a little dull after a while with zero romance or chemistry introduction. It's not until over halfway through the book that any kind of pining happens. And it's not until over three quarters of the way through before the toaster oven moment appears. They get together by the eighty percent mark of the book, and then the relationship progresses very quickly. I really wish there had been more time to deal with this monumental revelation about her sexuality that Kim goes through, but it's kind of swept under the rug after a few moments.

There is no third act breakup. It's a true slowburn where no one gets together until the very end of the book.

Loved it. The angst was not over the top. We had plenty of time to have our heroines together.

One quibble. At the end a 9 year old said you guys were being awkward together. Him saying weird would have been more likely.

Very good book highly recommended.

Likable but generic characters and fairly low angst made for a quick, pleasant read. There was nothing deep or passionate and the spice level was low.
