About this item

I'll do anything not to marry the girl my parents want me to.

Including marrying her brother in a drunken panic.

I'm not gay, but I can fake it long enough to get our parents off my back, right?

Cue hiding out for the next two years, but nothing is that simple, because I'm offered a spot on the US National team.

Now we have to fake it for the entire world as the poster boys of gay fencers while Colin makes me doubt everything I think I am.

I'm not prepared for all the ways I depend on Colin. Or the place he's filling in my life.

But I can't keep this up.

I'm slipping on a national stage.

And he's going to press every button until I snap, ruining this for us both.

The Retreat by Andi Jaxon and JR Gray is a great story. It's lighthearted and fun, but with plenty of snark, and obstacles to overcome.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read about….Consent!

I’ve enjoyed both books in this series, but this one hits better.
Learning about the past of both characters really brings them to life. This book also teaches the importance of consent. Communication is vital in a healthy sex life, whether it’s traditional or more flavorful. With consent…the more fun can be had!
Plus Oliver being put in his place every once in a while is very satisfying.

I knew this was going to be a great book with Colin in it with how bratty he is. However, I really wasn't expecting much with Owen. I'm not really sure why and boy was I wrong! Once Owen figured out what he wanted, he was super hot in this book. I loved how he was with Colin and how he took up for him. He protected Colin from the beginning. I do love Oliver, I get that he is overprotective with his twin but dude let your brother breathe!!! Colin and Owen took it A LOT better than I would have over those pictures. Depression and anxiety sucks! Then, adding in parents like Owen and especially Colin have, I couldn't even imagine!!! Anyways, I think that this book was really awesome. I can't wait for the next one.

***Spoilers here and there***

I’m curious as to who the next book is about because this one and the first one was about the twins so who is book three about I can’t wait for the blurb/description to come out.

But anyways I understand Owen anxiety because I to have that and social anxiety. But not to extreme as to how he has responded when he hasn’t taken his medication. But I was glad that in the Oliver taken care of him since their parents liked to ignore his mental health.

Not only that he ended up marrying Colin which was good for him (well them both) because Colin was there for him regardless of their marriage was fake in the beginning. I believe once they started becoming intimate with each other that’s when their true feelings got involved. I love that for them.

Also; I cannot stand Colin parents; I think his is by far the worst of them all! Compare to Owen and Oliver parents - including Issac but all their parents are horrible. But the beat down that he taken from his father really mad me upset because I felt so bad for him because he didn’t deserve that from his father. He was only looking out for his sister. I’m just glad when Cassie turned eighteen she gotten away from their parents because she didn’t deserved to be married off to older men. To appease her parents. Not only that I’m glad that Oliver came around and actually started respecting Owen and Colin relationship because he was disrespectful towards their relationship.

I think once he saw what Colin dad had done he ended up having more respect for Colin and seeing how his brother Owen loved and care for Colin . especially after Owen dad got that beat down which he truly deserved.. I loved that part!!!

Too many loose ends. What happened to Colin’s Dad after charges were filed, and Oliver’s threat to ruin him? Does Owen make it to the Olympics? So many questions

Owen and Colin’s story is so different from Oliver and Isaac’s. There was a dark edge to that one, while this one has more lightness. That comes down to the personalities of Owen and Colin. Colin is sassy and bantery and likes to push people’s buttons (especially Oliver’s). And Owen may look just like Oliver, but they’re not much alike in personality. Owen deals with anxiety and depression; he’s an introvert. At the start of the story, Owen hides behind Oliver, letting him take care of everything for him. After Owen and Colin get married, Oliver and Colin clash even more. But ultimately, Colin is able to gain independence and confidence. It takes Colin and Owen a while to get on the same page emotionally, but once they do they see how well suited they are.

I felt a little frustrated that neither seemed to really hear the other when they had a moment of real vulnerability with each other, sharing their deepest fears. If they’d been able to get past those fears to connect with what the other told them their dark moments could have been avoided. But where’s the fun in that?

I also loved how much Oliver and Isaac we get in this story and how close the couples are ???? And Colin’s t-shirts are awesome!

All in all, I loved this story almost as much as I did Oliver and Isaac’s. Their stories are so different though it’s almost not fair to compare them.

I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.

I loved the growth between Colin and Owen. How they found what they needed in each other was very sweet. And all the heavy was balanced brilliantly with Colin and Oliver's back and forth. I laughed so much at Colin's determination to get under Oliver's skin. It was hilarious!
