About this item

We live in an extraordinary time. Technological advances are happening at a rate faster than our ability to understand them, and in a world that moves faster than we can imagine, we cannot afford to stand still. These advances bring efficiency and abundance - and they are profoundly deflationary.

Our economic systems were built for a pre-technology era when labor and capital were inextricably linked - an era that counted on growth and inflation and an era where we made money from inefficiency. That era is over, but we keep on pretending that those economic systems still work.

The only thing driving growth in the world today is easy credit, which is being created at a pace that is hard to comprehend and with it, debt that we will never be able to pay back. As we try to artificially drive an economic system built for the past, we are creating more than just economic trouble.

On our current path, our world will become profoundly more polarized and unsafe. We need to build a new framework for our local and global economies, and soon, we need to accept deflation and embrace the abundance it can bring. Otherwise, the same technology that has the power to bring abundance to us and our world will instead destroy it.

In this extraordinary contrarian book, Jeff Booth, a leading mind and CEO in e-commerce and technology for 20 years, details the technological and economic realities shaping our present and our future, and the choices we face as we go forward - a potentially alarming, but deeply hopeful situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible original thought masterpiece!

In "The Price of Tomorrow," Jeff Booth delivers a compelling and thought-provoking analysis of our current economic system and the challenges we face as technology advances at an exponential pace. Booth argues that our current economic model, which relies on infinite growth and an ever-expanding money supply, is unsustainable in the face of technological progress and the deflationary pressures it creates.

What sets this book apart is Booth's ability to blend economic theory with real-world examples and anecdotes. He illustrates his arguments with examples from industries such as transportation, healthcare, and education, showing how technology is disrupting traditional business models and challenging the status quo. He also explores the potential consequences of this disruption, both positive and negative, and offers ideas for how we can adapt and thrive in this new paradigm.

Despite the weightiness of the subject matter, Booth's writing is accessible and engaging. He avoids jargon and technical language, making his ideas easy to understand and apply. He also infuses his writing with a sense of optimism and possibility, showing how we can harness technology to create a more prosperous and equitable future for all.

Overall, "The Price of Tomorrow" is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of technology and economics. Booth's insights and ideas are both prescient and inspiring, and his book is sure to spark important conversations and debates about the future of our economy and society.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly important and timely book

This book beautifully lays out the argument for why an inflationary monetary system no longer works, and why adopting a deflationary monetary system is the real solution we need in this moment. The Keynesian idea that spending fueled by debt fueled by printing money is the solution to every economic problem has resulted in an incredibly fragile economic system on the brink of collapse at every turn. The central banks are constantly fighting to prop the system up by printing an ever increasing supply of money, yet this obviously can only continue for so long before people begin to lose confidence in the money itself, and it becomes worthless. Furthermore, our growing wealth inequality, homelessness problem, and shrinking middle class is causing political and social unrest that threatens to lead to a repeat of twentieth century totalitarian horrors. The system of inflationary money is no longer serving us, and this book argues that it is time to give in to the deflationary pressure of technological innovation and adopt a system that is no longer so dependent on debt and consumption, but more dependent on savings and production. This may lead to an enlightenment and renaissance period in which we are able to enjoy the leisure and abundance provided by technology rather than working ourselves to the bone to keep up with our debt payments every month. This book could not be any more timely, and it I think it hits the nail on the head. buy it! read it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent book but goes off topic.

Overall, I do agree with the basic premiss that technology is causing some overall deflation for some goods and services. However, I'm not convinced that this is going to result in long term deflation of everything due to the massive money printing of the Federal Reserve and the banking system. A couple of the chapters seem to veer off topic. I did enjoy reading this book and this perspective.

The world we live in is going to change, wether we want it to or not, for the good or for the bad depends on when those changes are implemented, either we wait till the world economy collapses with the central banking ponzi scheme or we implement a better one sooner than later which is the bitcoin standard. Not allowing the same central banking system to implement a new digital fiat system to enslave the masses. The masses will eventually rise and make those changes or be subjugated into the new ponzi scheme without bitcoin as the one true decentralized monetary system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top 5 book I’ve ever read

I rate books based on their ability to reframe how I view the world. On that basis, The Price of Tomorrow would rank among the top books I’ve ever read. With that being said, I believe the Chapter The Future of Energy is incredibly flawed and Booth’s view on man made climate change and the potential for solar energy to be the main energy source in the near future. Overall incredible book. I’m reading it for the second time now.
