About this item

In a weedy lot on the outskirts of Memphis, two boys watch a shiny Lincoln pull up to the curb... Eleven-year-old Mark Sway and his younger brother were sharing a forbidden cigarette when a chance encounter with a suicidal lawyer left Mark knowing a bloody and explosive secret: the whereabouts of the most sought-after dead body in America. Now Mark is caught between a legal system gone mad and a mob killer desperate to cover up his crime. And his only ally is a woman named Reggie Love, who has been a lawyer for all of four years.

Prosecutors are willing to break all the rules to make Mark talk. The mob will stop at nothing to keep him quiet. And Reggie will do anything to protect her client—even take a last, desperate gamble that could win Mark his freedom... or cost them both their lives.

I am an avid Grisham fan. This is I think one of his best books ! All his books are good but in this book the nail biting tension interwoven with legal jujitsu and the larger than life character in certain ways hard to believe but you still wanting to believe is a testament to the master of his craft John Grisham is !

4.0 out of 5 stars Exhibit D as to why Grisham is one of the GOATS

Another example of why John Grisham is on his bag when it comes to legal thrillers, however the only thing that didn't work was the ending. It felt flat and slightly rushed.

This book is an instant classic. Grisham’s story flows like water and his characters feel as real as anyone you’d know in your own life. Mark Sway is an 11 year old boy with big secret. It’s like reading about Tom Sawyer if he hired a lawyer and hid from the Mafia.

This was different. Full disclosure-I'm an unapologetic John Grisham fan! I've randomly read many Grisham books. Recently, I decided to read the complete library in the order written. "The Client," is entertaining in that the main character is an intelligent and adventuresome child, kind of a Mark Twain feel. As with all Grisham books, in my experience, the story gripped me from the start and didn't let go. I'm always asking what's coming next for this character or that one. This is not the usual intense courtroom drama, but it will keep you guessing. Good story!
