5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!

Where He Can’t Find You by Darcy Coates is a masterpiece in the horror/thriller genre. This book is excellently paced and features a variety of POV’s throughout its 395 pages. This book had a vice-like grip over me today as I started reading at page 138 and didn’t put it down until I finished it at page 395. This is the only book where I have ever read 257 pages within a twelve hour time frame. Hopefully that speaks as to how addicting this one is. Darcy Coates has continuously left her mark in the horror book world to the point where many have called her the “Queen of horror”. Needless to say, I can see why. This book had a great villain, an intriguing story, great characters, and there were times when I was genuinely creeped out which doesn’t happen a lot as I have been an avid horror lover for around a decade. My one tiny complaint with this book is that there is a small question that is never answered and I wish it had been. However as that is a small issue, I am inclined to give this book a 9.7/10 and I highly recommend this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spooky tale is one of Coates' best
Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2024
Author Darcy Coates delivers one of her strongest and most chilling books yet with a spooky tale of a town decades under siege by a malevolent being called the Stitcher, who kidnaps people and then returns their bodies mutilated and sewn back together with red thread. When her sister Hope is taken, teen Abby swears to get her back and gathers her friends for a confrontation with a being that has terrified her town for years.

Coates delivers a tale that fans of It and Stand by Me will find very entertaining and quite bone chilling at the same time. It’s a young adult novel but one that grown-ups will surely enjoy equally as a group of teens take on a monster that no one has been able to stop…and many have died trying! She gives her tale some nice atmosphere by painting a disturbing picture of a town that has lived in fear for years. She then pits a group of endearing and resourceful teens against this mysterious and dangerous killer whose origin and past we slowly find out more about as they do. All leading to an intense confrontation with a creature of pure evil. It’s another spooky, goosebump inducing tale from a writer who knows how to scare and entertain us!

I give this a solid 7.2! So enjoyable and had me scared AF like the I-don’t-want-my-limbs-dangling-off-the-bed-at-night kind of scared and if I-close-my-eyes-the-monsters-won’t-find-me kind of scared!

This gave me Stranger Things and It vibes where it’s a group of adolescents. But I loved their resilience and their understanding of each other and the rules they had to live by all their lives. They were mature and understandably so. As always, Darcy Coates weaved the tale and the characters so very well that the tapestry came out auspicious and lovely.

This adventure was scary, as I’ve said, but it was also a lesson in friendship. Whereas independence should be celebrated, so should your ability to open up to people and allow yourself to need and be needed. Because there’s a monster after you. And you need all the help you can get. lol. Jk. But not really.

A few grammatical errors here and there, but the storyline was amazing. Leaves you wondering what the truth is, whether you’re diving into a world with a horrible, gruesome serial killer or something even larger. The concept is very fascinating. Darcy provides an interesting and graphic story that keeps you guessing.

So I don’t think I have read a YA book since I was a YA (am I a middle adult at 29?) and I didn’t know it was one until I read other reviews lol. This one was a fun read. It’s like supernatural mystery with a group of teens trying to save one of their own after she gets taken. I think I was holding my breath the whole time Abby and Rhys were in the mines trying to find hope and save her from the Stitcher. The ending was what I expected from how the rest of DC books have been so far and it was an enjoyable read.
