5.0 out of 5 stars So cool!!

I got this item for my dad (mid 60s) who likes to collect coins. He typically uses a jewelers loop, but I feel like this magnifying camera will be easier to use. I wish it was more age neutral, but I just removed the strap, box and kid slides. The carrying case is nice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Way To Explore The World

I got this for my grandkids because I thought this would be a neat way for them to experience everyday things in a new way. Things that are every day and common can become new and unique, literally based on one’s viewpoint. It’s a great way to see the world in a whole new way and realize that not all things are as they seem and bare a deeper inspection. While it may be considered to be more of a toy, I think that it can expand a child’s thoughts and understanding of the world around them. My grandkids are home schooled, and this is such a fun way to help them learn. I do question the 1000x magnification and feel that isn’t accurate. I guess it depends on exactly how they got that measurement but by my account it’s not nearly that strong. The 200 is probably closer to the accurate strength and maybe not quite that high. I’m not dinging it for that because I never believed the 1000x magnification when ordering it and because it’s being sold as more of a toy than a lab microscope. As for the unit, the size of the body is easy for them to hold. The top display s nice and it’s easy to operate, even for young kids. I like that images can be saved on an SD card to look at later. That’s a nice option for a lot of reasons but very nice for homeschool because they can find interesting things or things that they are being taught and have discussion later in the classroom setting. It also comes with a few slides, a lanyard and a very handy case to keep it all together when not in use. I might take a little exception to this being labeled as for kids and teens because I actually like it myself. In fact, as I get older having visual assistance is invaluable and I found that this little thing was an excellent helper in seeing things that I’m unable to, even with use of my glasses. Overall, this has been so much fun and very educational. I’ve enjoyed witnessing their excitement and how much fun they have learning about everything and even simple things around them. Learning should be fun so what an awesome tool! I highly recommend this to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Legit scientific instrument that does a crazy amount for the price

Having spent more time and money than I care to contemplate on microscopic equipment for school, I can't say enough good things about this generation of inexpensive but powerful pocket microscopes. These are legitimate scientific instruments.

This one is super easy to magnify and zoom in on anything. The strap makes it simple to use, especially because you can hold it like you would an old video handheld camera but lighter (this one is right-handed), focus while holding it using the roller underneath your hand, and easily take photos while holding the magnifier steady.

The greatest thing is being able to wander around and look at anything. You can focus on things the magnifier isn't even touching. You don't have to prepare slides. The image quality is fantastic. There are many different levels of illumination.

It's not an invertoscope--there is a physical limit to what you can do with top-down illumination--but in so many ways, it beats most classroom microscopes I grew up with.

The only caveat I have with this particular unit is that the noise it makes when turned on is unpleasant and jarring, and might be upsetting to kids who startle. That said, it really is worth having over attachments to a phone, for example. It's much easier to handle and focus, for example. The unit is rechargeable with a USB cable.

5.0 out of 5 stars This toy microscope is fun for nature fans of all ages.
Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2024
I actually got this for my 56 year old husband to take on his nature walks with the doggo. So, while it is a toy microscope, and it will help littles prepare for using real microscopes in school and beyond, it can also be fun for nature fans, photographers, etc. as well.

Pros:

Excellent resolution on the screen and with the photos. Comes with a 32GB micro SD card. Videos are in the highly-portable AVI format. It comes with pre-prepared slides to look at (the cap has a slide slot).

Cons:

The 1000x claim is confusing. If you take a real microscope at 1000x you’re talking about taking things 1/1000th of a mm up to a mm in size (rendering the invisibly small viewable). This will not do that. But it will take things a few mm and make them easily explorable. The microscope also does not come with unprepared slides, so you’ll need to buy those separately. Everything shows slightly off center, but not enough to diminish the field of view.

Other notes: The cap with slide guide does wiggle off from the point where it sticks out all the way around a few mm up, but that’s not immediately obvious and isn’t noted in the manual. You. may have to pull more than feels safe, but it IS mean to come off.

A backlight may be needed for some specimens, though the top light does work well for most circumstances.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Microscope for Kids
Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2024
This is a fun little microscope for kids! It’s neat to look at things up close, and it’s easy to use and handle. The sample slides are a lot of fun, and we had a good time checking them out. My only wish is that it came with a couple of extra slides so we could look at our own items. Overall, a great experience.
