5.0 out of 5 stars Worked perfectly

I purchased this eSIM for my iPhone 12 Pro and was able to set it up easily. It worked as expected for my week long trip in Japan. I set up the eSIM while in Taiwan and had no way to validate that it would work until we landed in Japan but had no issues at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t buy it

I bought the SIM card to be used during my travel to Switzerland one of the listed countries to use it. I installed the card and immediately received a welcome message and got excited. However I didn’t get any internet connection then received a message that I already used 4 GB and within 2 minutes my balance was Zero while I failed to get any internet connection. I could even order an uber to take me to the hotel. Don’t buy it. It doesn’t work. Amazon should stop selling this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for unlimited voice calls and texting

On my last visit to Japan, I struggled to get my iPhone to work. My carrier in the US doesn't offer service in Japan so it was a challenge to make calls and text home. I won't bore you with the details of the issues I encountered but rather I'll just tell you how this SIM card solved my problem.

I got an idea when I purchased my JR Pass and they offered me a pocket WiFi device. They'd charge $63 for seven days, 3gb data limit per day at 4G speed before it's throttled to 256k. Not bad, but it was a hassle to get and return the device. Limited locations. Poor hours. Late penalties. Lose it, pay for it ($140).

I figured I could use an old unlocked Android phone as a portable hotspot. I bought this SIM for around $20, put it in the phone, and turned on data roaming. After a minute or two, it connected.

I burned through the 10gb of high speed data in the first two or three days, then used it at 128k. It worked great with my devices. Using a VPN and WiFI calling on my iPhone 15, I was able to receive and make calls and texts using the old Android phone as a hotspot, and I didn't have to worry about running out data. I only used it for a week but it would have lasted fifteen days. It worked fine in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Hakodate. At 128k, for websites it was very slow, but no problem with calls and texting.

4.0 out of 5 stars APN field
Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2024
I purchased the 7-day 5G data plan for my trip to Japan. Upon arriving in Tokyo, I inserted the SIM card and followed the instructions to enable Data Roaming, even restarting my phone. Although I could see the cellular signal bars, I couldn't access any data. I then attempted to manually set up the APN as instructed on the package, but encountered issues. The instructions stated, 'Please configure your phone APN (Access Point Name) manually,' leading me to mistakenly enter at the APN name field. Once I entered it in the correct 'APN' field, the data plan worked perfectly. It worked in Nagoya, Kyoto, and Tokyo.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works and reliable connections

We landed in the Frankfurt airport in Germany in Oct 17th. I put this sim card right away, and got a good 4G signal. We traveled to Venice, Three Greece islands, Athens, Croatia, Slovenia, Ephesus, and Istanbul. We got very reliable 4G signals in these counties. In the beginning, I worry about if this sim works in Turkey, since only few sims work in this area and they are pricy too. This sim card is very reliable in Turkey and counties it promised. Thumb up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it. It's convenient

I'm so glad that I bought this and was able to access mobile data before I was even off the plane in Japan. It was cheaper than what my friend paid for her SIM card at the airport. We defiantly needed the internet to get from Narita to Tokyo. Just do it and save yourself the hassle. I highly recommend it. Remember to use an "unlocked" phone or a phone that has been unlocked by your phone service provider or else new SIM cards won't work. Just an FYI to those who weren't aware.

1.0 out of 5 stars 2of 4 DOA, remaining 2 dead after 2 days.

Update April 5,2023
After 2 days, the remaining 2 (30 day 15G SIM card) that initially worked also got disconnected and China Mobile shows up as the network. I know I did not use up the 15G of data because I got an eSIM from SingTel Airalo, and I used 500M in 2 days on the SingTel network. I am lucky that I still have a slow cell data service and have international data. Albeit at the unbearable speed of 256kb. It was my life line to get the Airalo data service that delivers eSIM card online.

If you have to use a physical SIM card, get the 15 day ones and not the 30 day ones. The 15 day SIM cards worked all the way to the end of my trip.

Original review …

The SIM cards worked like a charm when they do. I bought 6, installed 4. 2 worked on power up. Good. Not the same for the other 2. The other 2 connected briefly and got kicked off. “iPhone not activated Contact you carrier if this problem continues to occur”. It looked like to me that the SIM card is not authorized to work in Japan. So I checked the carrier. And it says China Mobile (in Chinese). Of course these 2 wouldn’t work! It would work in China! So this is a packaging problem. They we mixing up SIM card from the wrong country! Luckily, I bought two extra as backups. The other backup SIM cards (15 day 10G) worked just as expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked in Thailand & Malaysia
Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2024
The sim card worked great in both Thailand and Malaysia, with no problem switching between the two or getting it started. It was the right amount of data for my needs. It came with a tool to pop out the sim card tray and a little plastic pouch with a space for my US sim card and for the tool. Those were the little touches that felt "above and beyond." I felt great about keeping the pouch in my US wallet and it was ready for me when I finished my trip.
