I found rodent droppings in the garage a few weeks ago. With the onset of colder weather (autumn/winter), I wanted to stem this tide quickly! I had read that a mix of peppermint oil and water work well to repel rodents.
I did a 50/50 mix of the peppermint oil and water, then sprayed it all over the area where I found the droppings. Prior to doing that, I swept everything clean so that I could track. It's been 3 weeks and so far, so good! I spray whenever the smell fades (every 3 - 4 days). It's worked well.
Be aware that the smell is strong; if you do NOT like the smell of peppermint, you may want to think about this option. In our case, the smell does waft upwards to the living area of the house. But it is not offensive to us at all, so we don't mind!
