5.0 out of 5 stars Packing tape salvation after escaping from the dreaded Uline tape
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2021
After spending the last couple of years using a 36 roll case of ULINE's industrial tape I am finally free from tape torture. I was seduced by the price of cheap tape and thought wow I can really save money. Shortly after I started using cheap tape I realized I was wrong. Buying a more expensive quality tape like Duck brand tape would have actually saved me money.

Uline Tape
Pros
Length of tape on the roll
Cons
Prone to wrinkling almost never rolls on smooth
Tape itself not very durable
Has adhesion problems
Requires the use of 2 to 3 times the amount of tape to safely do the same job
End up wasting a lot tape do to tearing or other problems
Takes longer to sufficiently seal boxes

Duck’s tape
Pro’s
Is not prone to wrinkling so it rolls on easily.
The tape sticks first time every time.
Tape is durable and not prone to splitting.
Less tape is needed then the cheap tapes.
Ease of use means less time wasted.
Cons
Wish the rolls were twice as long.

Duck's tape has a higher price when you buy it but I feel it actually costs less when you take into consideration everything. Duck brand tape will be my tape of choice moving forward.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% GREAT and I've a lot of experience, plus a very useful tip here :-)

My very useful tip is shown in the two photos I put here. The odd black, white, clear, and yellowish-dotted strip that you'll see sticking out along the edges of my roll of duct tape is REALLY just a plastic piece that I cut out of a dollar-store purchase: a Minions-decorated plastic placemat. Over a long time that very flexible, very strong plastic placemat had gotten too worn down to look nice anymore. But it still works wonderfully as it's cut up into bits as needed, in order to hold the edges of many rolls of clear duct tape. If you adhere a similarly strong, flexible plastic strip to the edge of your own duct tape, then the duct tape will never stick to itself at its edge. It's sticking to itself is super-annoying, as then you can't easily find the edge and once you finally have found it you'll then have to work like heck to completely detach the full edge. The plastic strip I put there totally ends that problem. And the plastic strip easily peels right off the edge of the roll of duct tape, leaving zero residue behind.

Be sure and make the plastic strip you put on a little bit longer than the width of the roll of duct tape, so that it sticks out on the edges. By doing that, the duct tape simply can't stick to itself anywhere there and it's way easier to grab in a flash. Right before I cut a piece off, I put the plastic strip where it'll remain behind on the roll of duct tape first. Thus the clear duct tape never, ever sticks invisibly to itself at its edge. And so I use that same plastic strip over, and over, and over until the roll of clear duct tape is all used up. Then I save the plastic strip I made for the next roll of clear duct tape I'll start using. Tah-dah! That makes this SO much easier to use.

Over the years I've bought tons of rolls of many different brands of clear duct tape. I was hesitant to make this purchase because of the negative feedback I read here, about this kind tearing too easily. So, after just using one of the 6 rolls I ordered, I am very happy to reassure you that it DOESN'T tear especially easily at all. It's good strong stuff.

Just so you know, in case it helps any... what I use my clear duct tape for is to coat the shipping labels I put on boxes which I've packed for moving and/or storage, in order to identify their contents. The clear duct tape keeps those shipping labels from wearing out or rubbing off, and even protected them a bit when a building's leaking pipe spilled unto them once. But I use the opaque colored duct tape which also has thread in it to hold the outside edges of those cardboard boxes which I pack, not this clear kind. Because I feel that with the addition of the thread, that opaque, colored duct tape is therefore just a little, tiny bit stronger.

As I use it, I am completely happy with my purchase of this clear duct tape and so I highly recommend that you go ahead and make the investment too.

'K. Good luck. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good tape, good price

This is my favorite packing tape. Strong, easy to dispense, and relatively inexpensive. Adhesion is good on smooth surfaces and clean cardboard, but the thin layer doesn't conform to rough surfaces. (Sometimes you just need Duck Tape, or something with a heavy water-based adhesive.)
I also use it to protect paper labels and Sharpie markings from water and physical wear - the plastic is tough, and resists pretty much all solvents and cleaners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Packing Tape you can buy

I have uses this Duck HD Packing tape for over 20 years.
For me, it is the best tape you can get. good, quality, thick tape that does the job the first time.
Not flimsy like many others..............this one has in my opinion has better structural integrity. It does not rip as easy or become mangled up. It retains its shape better because it is thicker and made with better plastic. Almost a slight rubbery feel to it which is good. I like the width of this tape too. One shot around boxes or in corners and edges and you are done. Yes you can get less expensive tape out there..................but in the end its not worth it. This tape is worth every cent. Highly Recommended.
