I was impressed immediately when I opened the box to see the storage bag. It has a nylon handle with bright, orange stitching, the zipper is super smooth and the fabric is strong. The inside has mesh pouches to hold the transmitter, receiver and accessories.
The receiver, paired with the included phone adapter, fits and works perfectly with my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I immediately tried everything out upon arrival. (The first test video is attached to this review.) The windscreen pops onto the transmitter with a satisfying click. The transmitter is small and discrete. There is a magnet and clip, so you have a choice for how to wear it. Both work well. Long pressing the power button on both the transmitter and receiver powers them on. Reverse that for powering off. From there I just opened the camera app and started videoing. There was an air purifier set to high in the same room where my test video was taken. The Mic Mini did a fabulous job, even with noise cancellation turned off. I did have the black windscreen on, though.
The gain dial is easy to use as it’s right there on the receiver. I find that I don’t mess with the gain very much, though. Noise cancellation can be turned on or off by pressing the other button. All of that is in the instructions, which were very helpful. So far all of the features are easy to use and work well. I did not try the app with this mic as I don’t need it.
Charging is easy with the included charging base and cables. The transmitter fits into the small charging base. The cable fits into the base and the receiver.
I like that the Mic Mini will work with my Sony cameras via the 3.5mm cable. I already have a larger DJI mic for that, but it’s nice to have a backup. The Mic Mini will be mostly for my phone recordings and laptop conferences.
This is a great kit for a very reasonable price. (Currently $89.00) The quality and ease of use really can’t be beat. I’m quite happy with the DJI Mic Mini and definitely recommend it.
